Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
I need to repace the tensioner and cannot find any how to info
Find the spring loaded tensioner which is generally located near the top of the belt path; it usually has a shinny pulley on it. Look at the tensioner and insert the socket wrench or breaker bar with either a 3/8" and /or 1/2" head into it and apply opposing pressure to release the belt.
Once the belt has been removed, the tensioner is only held on by one bolt, Can't recall what size socket you will need. Once the bolt has been removed the tensioner falls right out.
Intallation is done in reverse, good luck and you just saved your self some money. Go out and have some fun.

-Take off the belt
-There are TWO bolts holding on the tensioner. One on the left and the other on the right.
(The one in the middle of the tensioner pulley does not hold it on the engine.)
-The space between the bolts and the body is very tight, and I did not have a socket to fit. I used an offset wrench (13mm or 1/2 inch) to remove the bolts.
There may be more room if you take off the alternator & alternator bracket.
