RTM , Read the manual yet. seem not
my guess, it car is PT 4wd, and not TOD fancy system.
so with PT (PART TIME 4WD)
4wd is for driving on ice. and dirt.
never on pavement ice free
or it damages the parts. winds up. when you turn like
this hear the damage ,increase, its saying why kill me./?
MUST BE YOUR FIRST PT 4WD?

THE KEY WORD IS PART.
ITS NOT AWD
NOT AT ALL.
Symptoms.
binding
sticks in gear
or baulks at going in to 4wd.
noise
transfer case cries in pain

this comment is not true if font locks are unlocked

but that is not 4wd, is it? .a1b1e992-7338-49a5-8900-5c0a3e3f182e.jpg

this is the trooper TOD (on left)
id bet your car is PT ,part time 4wd
you need to be on ice,
and i bet you are NOT. am I right/.
try reading your operators guide,
all warnings on this post are THERE.
this car drives same was as all PT jeeps.
same way, and same rules.

My 2005 crown Vic makes a popping noise when put in gear and a popping noise whe

If the "popping" noise comes from underneath the car, you may have a worn U-joint on the drive shaft. If it is coming from the front of the car, it is probably a broken or weak engine mount ("motor mount").

1988 silverado will not go into drive

Probably broke your U-Joints on your driveshaft, preventing the rear wheels from turning. Your driveshaft might have disengaged from your differential too. check underneath concentrating on the driveshaft and differential

4 wheel drive not working

First, get it onto some dry ground and look underneath. See if you can get an eyeball on whats making noise. Without lying underneath, have someone try to engage 4x4 while you watch from the side.Or get it up on a lift. When you have an idea what or where noise is coming from, I can help you with the how to fix it part.

It could be as bunnydawg suggested but thiers quite a few other things that could cause that sound. You need to be a little more specific as any of the rotating parts, drive shaft etc, could be the cause of the noise. If not the engine making that noise which is odd as it only gets noisy at specific times,60 and up Check drive shaft uni joints, tyres and harmonic balancer also make sure none of the front pulleys arnt loose.Good luck
