1. you don't have a timing belt. its a timing chain. you are looking at the serpentine belt. still expensive but it will need replacement. do not drive it very far if the belt breaks while driving.
2. Spark plugs are easy, only change at 100k. if you are not proficient with cars and doing it yourself then it will be costly.
3. that happens to all vw and audi's. no way around it. trust me i have same car and audi a6. happens all the time.
4. look around on internet.

depends on your financila situation. this is a good car to drive and just destroy. reselling these is not easy. too many things break. its not a honda.

VW Dealer says I need an antifreeze flush,a timing belt and Tensioners, and a front motor mount. I am orig.owner with 52,000 miles driven and only dealer has worked on my car. These items will cost over...

Ask them why the timing belt components are being recommended when they are not due until 80,000 miles. If you do not have an owners manual, it would help that you get one because it has your factory maintenance schedule in there as well.
If your motor mount is bad, that just depends upon inspection. If it looks bad and your engine feels like it is bucking then it may need to be replaced. Most shops will try to get $120-$150 for the mount and 1.5 - 2 hours labor.
It would help to shop the local VW dealerships or VW specialty repair shops and see how much each one is charging for the timing belt replacement in the future, as well as your motor mount, in order to have a better idea of the going rate in the area.
Good luck and please let me know if I can further assist you.

Show me how to replace a water on a 1999 VW Passat e a water pump on a 1999 VW Passat

It depends on what engine you have, but all 3 are similar. They are all in the front of the engine, so the water pump can be run by a belt. With the 1.8 turbo, it is run by the serpentine belt, but you still have to take the timing belt off because it is behind the timing belt slightly. The Vr6 is run by the timing belt, so also needs the belt removed. The V6 was less common, but also difficult. You do not have to take the timing belt off I think, but you have to remove the whole chassis at the front, because there is so little room otherwise. There really are only 4 main bolts holding the whole chassis front on. It is recommended that the thermostat and timing belt be done at the same time, to save labor, since it is intensive on any engine.

2001 VW Passat, has 120,000 miles. I'm told the

You didn't tell us in which currency that '2780' was quoted but if US $, that seems unreasonable to me.
Timing belts can cost >$100 but not often and vary in degrees of difficulty to replace; on one of our cars (87 X1/9) it's about a 30 minute job. A Subaru Outback is more like a couple of hours so yours is likely in that range somewhere.
Valve cover and transmission gaskets aren't normally that tough to replace and cost little; check one of the chain auto parts sites to verify that. It only takes a few minutes to run up the potential parts cost and the labor should run well under a $1000 total.
Now you have a second opinion but, get a 3rd one in person.

2003 VW PASSAT. Check engine light goes on and

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

2000 VW passat timing belt replacement

80 000miles(120 000km) is recomended by the dealer but it's safer at 40 000miles(60 000km) its safer for town driving and cold conditions considering the diffirence between a cambelt change and a replacemnet engine and downtime.

How much to replace a timing chain on a 2000 vw passat--1.8 turbo-- should i do this?--it has 113,000 miles on it and it runs great.-- have changed the oil on it every 5000 miles since new--

You should have the timing belt changed between 90-100K miles. When you are having the belt changed you should also change the water pump rollers. The total cast would be $950.00

WHERE IS THE TIMING BELT LOCATED ON MY 1998 VW PASSAT?

Timing belt is hidden under all accessories (alternator, A/C compressor, Power Steering pump, etc.) It is a difficult repair, on many VW models it requires removal of the whole 'front clip' which involves fenders, grill and radiator. Expect $600 -$800 cost. Usually the water pump should also be changed with timing belt - just because to tear engine down that far, it is a preventative step to save future problems.

Volkswagon passat 4 motion v-6 timing belt

Your engine uses a belt, the shop most likely wants to use a timing belt kit, you should replace the cam belt driven water pump as well

This is the timing belt kit
ACDELCO Part # TCK297P {6 Components (1 Belt, 1 Tensioner, 1 Idler, 3 Seals) #19164609}
BELT KIT,TMG INTERFERENCE ENGINE APPLICATION; DOES NOT INCLUDE CAM. TENSIONER HYD. ASSY.; TIMING BELT COMPONENT KIT W/SEAL PRICE $167.79

This is the water pump
CARDONE SELECT Part # 5583414 moreinfo.gif PRICE $70.99

So about $150 for parts, labor should be around 3-4 hours, here is California the job would price out for around $600.00

The parts are from the lowest price I found on the internet, this is WWW.Rockauto.com
