Help with Transmission problem of a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0l

I need to know what could be wrong with my automatic DSM. When you put it in reverse, nothing happens, the motor just revs up. But if you put the car in drive and then in reverse then it will back up. When you push on the gas and it goes to downshift it will rev up and then catch and go faster. It has a rebuilt tranny in it, by the best guy in our county of 437,000 people. I have been thinking about the Torque convertor, could that be doing this, could it be an electrical problem. I checked the 10 amp 4A/T fuse and it was good but i dont know what could the problem be. Thanks so much -Heylookitsbret-

SOURCE: 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse transmission slips in overdrive

well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem

SOURCE: 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse automatic transmission

I just went through the same problem this year twice. My car started smoking some, and I notice a trial of fluid on the road both times. I'm not sure but my car problems may have started when I got my Transmission flushed.

My car has 100,000 miles and I drive my car pretty hard.

I was first told the torque converter went out. Then I was told the Fuel pump needed to be changed. After being without a car for threes months, I just brought a new transmission and had it shipped to the shop.

From researching online, I think the fragile "Wave spring" in the transmission needs to be replaced and the new version of the "Wave Spring" is a solid & thick metal ring.

Secondly, the Mechanic will need a alignment tool to put the transmission back together properly. The tool is called Sonnex or made by the company I think.

Let me know what you find out.

Also only use Transmission fluid for Mitsubishi Eclipse only.

1. Torque Converter
2. Transmission "Wave Spring" broken pieces of the wave spring may damage other parts as it flows through the system or the fuel pump I think.

I suggest you to replace the Torque converter but before to do it check the your Idle air control valve operation.

Pull that filter off again and you will see transmission shift solenoids.
Sounds like one or more is bad.
Google and youtube this topic first so you can get a better idea.

Friend took to auto zone they told them their could be 3 things wrong with their Mitsubishi Spyder eclipse 2002 low transmission fluid, transmission solonoid ,transmission inner problems

All three are possibilities. Without knowing what the vehicle was doing no one here would be able to say otherwise. If it is an Automatic, considering they mentioned a solenoid, and the fluid is low, a check you can do, add fluid to the proper level and see if the problem resolves itself. If it doesn't you will need to take it to a transmission shop to have it diagnosed to the exact problem.

2001 mitsubishi eclipse. Automatic transmission

Transmission may be low on transmission fluid or the transmission fluid pump failed. If it's electrical, you can still get it in to gear, but would not shift gears. Good luck and keep me posted, check transmission fluid level and have the transmission line pressure tested. Before that check all your fuses.

2001 eclipse suddenly quit driving, acts like it slipped into neutral and shifting makes no difference (auto). Any ideas on what happened?

its the same thing eclipse trannys have a big problem with the wave spring inside, it breaks and destroys the ******, If you get it fixed again make sure they put a rebuilt one in. Mitsubishi redesigned the wave spring

1996 mitsubishi eclipse doesn't start when turning the key. had the starter tested, it was good. all the dash lights come on like normal, but nothing happens. Battery is good and fully charged. Any ideas.

check for voltage at the small start wire on the starter when cranking the engine--you will need someone help. If there is no voltage you may have a bad neutral safety switch ,which is on the trany shifter.you have an automatic trans i assume.
If so try putting in neutral when cranking.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON

Can you describe how the car isn't running well? Is it idling rough, or getting bad gas mileage, or something else? Being a 93 it's an OBD 1 car (emissions standards) and the engine codes can help, but they're not extremely descriptive (not nearly as much as a 96 or newer car, which is OBD 2). If you have a shop with a scanner, they can scan the car and tell you the codes, and that'd help you with a starting point for troubleshooting. Also, take a look at www.dsm.org - it's an enthusiasts' site for Talons and Eclipses, and you may well find everything you need right there.

the CHILTONS 1990-1993 Mitsubishi eclipse repair manual has extensive electical, vacuum and other such diagrams fo this vehicle about $25 at auto parts store or online. this is probably one of the most extensive resource on this vehicle, well worth the money. in fact in most cases it payes for itself the first time you use it. (in savings on mechanic/repair shop visits. it has trouble shooting and a comprehensive chapter on every system in the car.
