Problem for Oldsmobile 2001 Aurora

Why is it shutting off and my rpm gauge is acting crazy

i have a 2001 olds aurora , it drives fine and all but today it shut off on me . I restarted it and the rpm guage was going coo coo so i turned it off and restarted it again it was fine . I left it off as i went to my gym for my workout so i go to start it and it hesitated to start (never done that before) finally started the rpm guage did the same thing , do u know what can be wrong with it ??

-   Im having the same problem also. It may have something to do with the cam shaft sensor im thinking. Is your check engine light on? -   Monimah06

-   I have the same problem, my 01 Aurora won't turn over, If I hold it it then starts but then my speedometer needle will jump all the over to the right and stay there. If I was to turn my car off then start it up it will turn over at the first try and the needle would be fine.-   Prince77

My problem was the same. It was diagnosed as needing a new Crank-shaft Sensor. Replaced it and it ran great. Very difficult to get to physically!
