Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep starts hard.

I have a 1998 Jeep cherokee 4.0 it starts hard. Usually starts up in the morning first try, once it gets warm it takes 2 or 3 trys before it will start. It was at the local shop and they said it is losing fuel pressure it must be electrical and gave it back to me. Also if it runs for to long time at an idle it will just shut down and wont start back up for at least 1 min, it has to cool or something. Any ideas?

Sounds like the fuel pump is going bad. There is an anti-drainback valve inside which may have failed.
Have a more competent shop check it out. (or , just repalce pump)

Frozen ice around shift mechanism. Oil in trans is too thick. Try adding a heat lamp or blanket around the transmission area.

3.0 jeep grand cherokee poor starting.changed heater plugs but vehicle still turns over quite a while before firing on a morning.once started it is fine rest of day.

Oil Heater,,,the auto parts stores have an heater tube you insert into the dipstick tube,,,its a cheap fix,,usually about 20 dollars,,,keeps oil warm and provides quick starts,,,other fix's are expensieve,,so this is the lowest cost method. good luck. Tim.

Where is the resistor located that runs the different speeds of the blower motor?

Its on the passenger side underneath the dash. Take off the lower dash panel that's right below the glove compartment (2 screws you can see underneath, 2 you have to take off the glove compartment door to get to). Once you get that off, its really easy to see. There are 2 bolts (size about 7mm) holding it in and a locking clip with the 4 blower switch wires coming out.

Engine runs fine, no problem want's tempature is

I had a similar problem with a Ford Excursion, it turned out to be intake manifold gaskets. It would stall then start right up again, it ran fine during warm up. But, once fully warmed up it would stall at stop lights and stuff like that. I did get a check engine light, the code was lean condition. I don't know on a Jeep, sorry I can't be of more help.

'98 subaru wont shift from 1st unless rpms are high- morning only

When you first start driving it usually takes atleast 4 miles to warm the transmission to operating temperature. The temp of the motor may say it is warmed up, But, the trans fluid and differential fluid only begins to warm as you drive and the parts are actually working. THe computer has sensors that keep the trans from shifting to OD until the temp is up as not to add stress to the motor until warmed properly. Hope this helps and have a good day.
