SOURCE: 2002 Saturn Vue won't start

Non-start situations basically boil down to two things: No Fuel, or no spark.

I you are looking to throw a part at it, start with the crank sensor. They are cheap and not too hard to replace.

A full diagnostic approach would be to determine if it was a fuel or a spark problem. Check fuel pressures with a fuel pressure test guage: Low fuel pressure indicates a bad fuel pump or a bad fuel presssure regulator. Lastly on the fuel side, check t see if the injectors are getting a signal to fire, usually done with something called a noid light, I believe.

Spark diagnosis begins with first determining the condition, then finding the cause. Bad coil, loose wires, even the crank sensor are all suspect. A good repair manual with a flow chart is probably the best procedure to follow.

In my case, my manual only had a passing reference to the crank sensor and no diagnostic procedure to test it or even lead me to it. I found the solution through extensive web searches. Once I replaced it, all was well.

You need to test ,see what's missing while it won't start . Spark ! fuel pressure test, injector . Pull spark plug wires off same coil , crank engine , is there a spark jumping from one coil tower to the other ? If not the crankshaft position sensor or ignition module is bad . Saturn No Start Case Study featuring Beau Danner I would say just because I know GM ,the ignition module or crank sensor is bad .

Turns over nice ...but am not getting a spark.

Are you getting fuel to the cylinders(if so,then injectors are pulsing, which means you're getting crank signal). If not,it may be the crankshaft sensor(this gives the PCM input for both). If you are getting fuel, but no spark, see if the ignition module is putting out switched 12v to the coils(I'm thinking this is a distributorless setup). If it is,the next step is to reconnect the coils and see if you get spark.

Thinking crank sensor, don't know if it's a 3.1 or not,3.4?Anyway with the engine running CAREFULLY
tap the crank sensor with a dowel or driveway marker, some long stick. If the sensor is bad the engine
will stumble or quit when you tap it,Same test also will check for broken board in the ecm also.

I had my spark plugs changed today and now my car won't start it will turn over but won't start

fuel problem or spark problem neither is associated with a change in sparkplug unless you had a sever misfire that you let go for a long time to cause thhe igition module to fail.and this include the crank sensor that is underneath the ignition module. cycle the key you should hear a humm at the fuel tank and that is the fuel pump working if you hear the fuel pump then more than likely you will need to correct for spark ignition module and crank sensor

This problem usually doesn't show up on diagnostic, it is a problem that saturn has with many of it's cars, it is either the ignition module or the crank sensor, I think replacing the crank sensor would be your best bet, that is what was wrong with mine and I didn't find that out until I replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump, the ignition module and the coils, trust me, go with the crank sensor.

If there is a good spark, then the crank sensor should be good, and module and packs should be fine. It may be crank sensor or ignition module. Are you getting good fuel pressure? You can go to autozone.com and register for full free online repair manual. Much better than the books.
