I got a 1994 Mercury Villager with a burnt up fuel pump and I need to know wether or not to go with an in-line pump or and in-tank pump.
Looks like it has an in-tank pump from stock manufacturing.

In the Gas Tank.. it is electric. You will need a book if you are going to do this yourself.. the last time I had to replace a fuel pump was on a 95 Ford Contour.. It cost me $600.. if you know what you are doing go for it.. keep a fire extinguisher handy... remember the fuel system is under pressure.. I currently have a Caravan 93 and it uses the same fuel delivery system.. Jim

CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

WARNING
The fuel pump and fuel tank sending unit assembly must be tilted to remove it from the fuel tank. Do not lift the assembly straight out of the tank, or damage may occur to the sending unit.
Lift the fuel pump and fuel tank sending unit assembly from the fuel tank and discard the gasket.
there is a small fuel line hose going to the fuel rail. You will need a long phillips head screwdriver to tighten it about 1 turn. May need a long flat blade screwdriver to allpy upward pressure while you turn pillips driver. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/villagerquest/
