I don't really have a problem just wonder how to push the piston back in the caliper on the rear of a 2002 cadillac sls

Rear caliper piston won't retract

if ur handbrake works off ur caliper it needs to be turned in clockwise while adding some force I normally use a g clamp and tighten it up as i turn the piston with a waterpump pliers

If you use a c-clamp, you will ruin the parking
brake in caliper

The piston gets turned or screwed in with the correct tool,
as you also push in

Rear pad removal?

Here ya go! This is for the rear brake pads removal:

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder filler cap. Check brake fluid level in brake master cylinder reservoir. Remove fluid until brake master cylinder reservoir is half full.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4. Inspect the brake pads for wear or contamination. If worn, damaged or past specification, install new components.
  5. Remove the caliper pin bolts.
  6. Remove the rear disc brake caliper.
  7. Remove the brake pads and rail clips.
  8. Inspect the disc brake caliper for leaks. If leaks are found, disassembly is required.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:
    • Caliper bolts: 27 ft. lbs. (36 Nm)

If the brake caliper piston will not go back into the piston bore do it need to be replaced.

try to get it overhauled..because might be it has gone jammed due to dust clottings......else get it replaced due to severe risks of brakes jams

Yes you can, I do it every time I change a set of pads. I remove the caliper without disconnecting the brake line, then I use the clamp to slowly depress the piston. It works better if you do not remove the old pad before doing this and you will be much less likely to damage the boot around the piston. Once the piston is pushed back in you can remove the old pad and install the new ones.

Im trying to change the rear pads but i cant get the piston to go in to accept the new do i move the piston in

The caliper piston has to be turned or screwed back into the caliper using a special tool that you can buy from any auto part store. The tool is usually square and fits on a 3/8" drive extension, it has protrusions on each side to fit into a different notch pattern on the caliper piston to turn it.

Do not use a caliper piston compressor or a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston or it will be damaged.

2006 mercury mailn rear breakpad replacment.I can't compress the breakcillender piston so that the calaper will acept the new pads

Greetings Milan Owner:
You need a C clamp you can pick up any auto parts store or hardware store and must position it to the front center of the piston with piece of wood accross the front piston and rear center of the caliper and turn the screw by its handle until the rubber part of the piston receeds even with caliper. Once even with the caliper you can put the pads on and slide the caliper on to the rotor. You can also carefully with the right wrench or socket open up the valve on the caliper and let some brake fluid out (very little). This will make it easier for the piston to receed into the caliper with a little help from you using a piece of wood to push it in. Using the second option you will definitely have to bleed your brakes to get a hard brake pedal in the car. Do not forget to add more fluid back to the master cylinder. Good Luck[

No, all you need is metric wrenches, a big hammer to remove the rotors and a c-clamp to push the piston back in the caliper.

You need to spin the caliper piston while puching in to retract the caliper, theres a tool used to do this easily, you can get this tool at most parts stores

Brake pads replacement on mazda protege 5 2002

if you cant push the piston into the caliper, unscrew the bolt on the back of the caliper and u can then insert a 3mm hex key and unscrew another bolt, that will loosen up the hand brake control and your piston will go in easily. I spent 2 hours fighting this until i read that on some other forum and worked like a charm :)

IMPORTANT - when u tighten the hex thing back, you MUST loosen it up a bit (1/8 of a turn or more) so ur wheel spins freely. Otherwise ur pads will rub way too much.
