If you don't get a click at all, your starter may be losing it's solenoid. there's a panel in the right fenderwell that the starter is behind. get that panel off and lightly tap the starter with something. if it fires right up, the solenoid is sticking.

Electrical problem with 1996 toyota 4runner

check the alternator. should be giving out 14 volts. around 5 amps on idle. also check the earthing wires in the engine bay and check they have good contact any and most electrical problems are down to a bad earth.

92 Toyota 4runner truck was running perfectly fine Later in the day went to start and the alarm just started going off and wouldn't turn off. Truck won't start even with keys turned in igniti

The alarm system somehow got activated , this is usually because the battery becomes discharged or disconnected try doing this:
Remove the key from the ignition
disconnect the negative battery terminal
put the key back in and turn to ON
exit the truck and leave door open
reconnect the battery terminal
get in and leave door open, if the alarm horn stays off it should start.

I have a 1996 toyota 4runner with power rear window. The window goes down and up fine but after you put it up then it goes back down one inch by itself -- any ideas ??

I had similar problem on my 98 4runner it would even go all the way down on its own . I removed the rear panels controller mount, unplugged all the harnesses at the controller to cleanly remove the upholster panel and the steel panel so I could plug the controller harnesses back in to trouble shoot it without having panels hanging and dangling. I actually had to drill a rivet on controller mount.

I removed the front panel switch from the circuit. You can reach in under by the emergency brake handle and pop the switch assembly out the unplug the switch. I used my 12 volt battery from my RV and applied 12 volts directly to the motor (Pos to red, minus to green) to raise it all the way up, this did not cure the problem for me so I put the up/down switch back in the circuit.

Next I had to unplug the harnesses again and raise the window again with the RV battery. With window raised all the way you can reach the plug to unplug the key switch and remove it from the circuit. This fixed it for me so I left the key switch on rear tailgate unplugged and it now works fine with just the front panel switch.

Hope this helps

Have a 89 suberban and the alternator and battery test at autozone is showing good but still not working. Cleaned termenals grounding is good. How do I check if the small 1 wire on the altanator is working...

With key on,it should read 12 volts, now check the large wire on the back of the alternator with key off,it should read 12 volts,if it does not, then ,it is not getting voltage from the battery, just run a wire, the same size,or larger on the back, along with the other wire, all the way to the battery positive side. This will solve the problem. If the small wire is not getting voltage from the ignition switch, then there is a fuse blown,or the ignition switch is bad.You can run a wire from the fuse box,to the alternator, just make sure it is on a fuse that just has power with key on,not off.If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

1999 Toyota 4runner starting problem

Turn on the headlights to check the battery and it's connections. If the lights fade out, the battery has likely lost charge, either because of a bad battery, or the alternator has failed. Charge the battery with an external charger overnight if the charger has a low charge rating, then start the engine and measure the battery voltage. The voltage should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC if the alternator is working, but 12.6 volts or less if it is not working. The battery should run the truck for a while until you can get the alternator and battery checked. Don't run any accessories until the system is repaired as needed.

My 4runner wont start. it clicks once but wont crank or turnover. battery is new and starter was replaced less than a year ago.

You will need a meter or a test light to check the starter. You will have a big wire cable going from the battery to the starter that always has 12 volts positve at it. The smaller wire will have 12 positive when the ignition key is turned to "start." If you have both of these at the starter, your starter is bad.
