If this is your first timing belt job, I would recommend finding someone who has experience with Subaru's and has access to the special tools to hold the crank pulley. Other wise it will be impossible to remove the crank pulley without removing the engine to fit a half inch drive impact gun with a 22mm socket onto the crank pulley bolt just to remove it. This is a picture of what the belt should look like when installed correctly on a single over head cam engine. Let me know if yours is a dual over head cam and I will get you the other picture...

You may need more than a belt replacement; the link below will show the characteristics of Subaru engines and the H-6 is listed as an 'interference' engine, meaning that when the timing belt breaks, it is possible for the pistons and valves to collide which can result in bent or broken valve stems and/or damaged pistons. In this case, it is wise to have a pro examine the engine and replace the belt.
It is also possible to damage this engine by improperly installing the new timing belt.
Some of the details may be at odds with your specific model but the mention of this engine being an interference engine is enough to give one pause-

I have a 1993 subaru impreza 4 door L sedan with

mcdevito75 here, You"ll have to manually turn the camshaft gear and other gears to re align the marks, use the starter to align the crankshaft marks. Of course you"ll need the shop manual to show you these marks. Worse case, have the car towed to you local shop for repair.

Timing belt broke and need timing marks diagram 2.2 subaru

the timing marks are on the camshaft pulleys and there are 2 notches on each pulley> they line up with 2 marks on the engine block for each pulley> and the crankshaft has a notch that lines up with a mark on the engine block aswell> pluss the new timing belt will have white marks on it that will line up with all of the marks on the pulleys when they are in the right place so its nearly impossable to do it wrong

Have a 1999 Subaru Legacy B4 sedan with a 2000cc engine in Japan. The 2.5liter recommends timing belt change at 105,000miles if I'm not mistaken. What about for a 2liter engine?

Yes 2.2L is the same. Remember these are Subaru suggested. Does not hurt to replace belt at these intervals. Have a great day.

Does the 2000 subaru outback have a timing belt that needs to be changed and at what miliage intervals

It should if it is a 4 cylinder. And any good mechanic would suggest to replace the belt between 70,000 to 90,000 miles.
