The plastic upper intake manifold will leak water into the combustion chamber and drown out the plugs or may cause a hydraulic engine lock. How far did you drive it hot? 3800's are not known for having a head gasket problem. I have seen some rookie mechanics change the head gaskets and replace engines only to find out that it was the upper manifold after they cranked it up with old one on it. Do you know if it was leaking water externally or why it ran hot?

Ran Hot? Did it boil?
If so I would check the oil if it is a creamy texture then unfortunately
you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head.Sorry

I got a 06 Mazda 2.3 that ran hot. I let it cool then put water in it but now it will not start. It turns over but won't start

Probably a blown head gasket. Check for water in the oil. The oil will milky brown color or really high on the stick. If OK, check cylinder compression.

Car ran hot wont start unless pushed started

how long did you run it hot, chances are if you run it hot too long more than 10 or 20 minutes you are going to end up with a blown head gasket. Most cars usually restart after cooling off for 30 minute to an hour or by lett it cool off and topping it off with more antifreeze or even plain water if you continue to drive it without water for any length of time you are going to have a major head job ahead of you. If you run it to the point where you warp the head it will cost major $$ the way you tell this is check the radiator when it is cool and see if it looks like oil is mixed in with the coolant (usually looks like chocolate pudding ) or check the oil fill if there is thick chocolate mud like film on the filler cap chances are you have a blown head gasket and a warped head. time for an overhaul, can cause more internal problems as well water mixed with oil causes many mechanical problems. never ever run a car hot for any length of time pull over and sit until cool and top off with water if nothing else.. or have it towed.. not worth the major cost to repair when you blow a head gasket or warp a head. past experience 20+ yrs and working on automobile repairs.

I Have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra Thats losing water, overheating and wont start when its hot. No leaks no white smoke.

If no leaks, I would pressure test the system with a view to replacing the head gasket.

MY 1997 GRAND CHEROKEE RAN HOT AND SHUT DOWN TURNS OVER FINE BUT HAS NO COMPRESSION WAS RUNNING FINE CHECKED OIL NO WATER IN OIL.SOMEONE SAID IT COULD BE A PLASTIC TIMEING GEAR.IT WATILL THIS HAPPENDS...

If your Jeep ran hot enough to shut itself down then you likely have at least a blown head gasket for starters. The casue of the overheating also needs to be addressed. Timing gears won't make an engine overheat nor will they cause an engine to lose compression.

If there is not enough compression to let it start, then you need to take it to a shop and have it checked out but you are probably looking at a head gasket and probably a warped or cracked head. Hope this helps.

Car turns over but does not start. Battery good

If it over heated, could have bad head gasket's, fill radiator with water, crank engine with radiator cap off, if water is push out of radiator while cranking, bad head gaskets', also remove spark plug's, crank engine if any water, bad head gasket, also when spark plug's removed, check for any water on them.If there is any water on plug's, bad head gasket, also could try doing a cylinder compression test, if bad compression, head gasket, no compression, wont start that way.

vehicle has most likely thrown rod thru water jacket in block or they ran it hot till a gasket say headgasket let go and be filled cylinders with water it may not turn over remove sparkplugs first and try to turn over water in cylinder will not compress so locks up engine i have seen people try to start with water in cylinder and it bend connecting rod good luck and remember the saying drive it like you stole it!!!!!
