Question about 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

1 Answer

Car is running rough, afetr spark plug change

I recently changed the spark plugs in my 2004 Crown Victoria. The check engine light came on right after. I did a diagnostic on it, and it said "Cylinder 3 Misfire" I replaced the ignition coil on the #3 cylinder, and now the check engine light wont come on at all, but the car is still running rough. It seems to be missing, and not running smooth. The fuel line popped off in the process, so I dont know if it is a injector issue, or a compression issue on that cylinder. Any ideas will help!

There are no plug wires, just coil packs, and all wires are correctly attatched to those. The RPM's do change when I remove the cylinder 3 wire that attatches to coil pack, so I think all is good there also. I have also removed plugs and swapped things out, and the exact same problem remains. I am really starting to think that it may be one of the injectors.

to check the cylinder do a compression check. other than that think basics. swap injectors / spark plugs/ leads to another cylinder to move the problem

Duh sorry about wires question, got years mixed up with another one I've been helping. Fuel line popped off, makes me lean toward something happened there that may be reducing fuel flow, which in turn would make you think bad injector perhaps. Injector connection, vacuum line, anything in that area that you may have disturbed when doing the job. I'm just throwing stuff out there now, just because it doesn't make sense, as I'm sure you've said already. Any chance dirt got in fuel line when putting it back together? Any "O" rings on fuel line connection that may have wedged in wrong? Now curiosity is killing me.

Tried pulling plug wire(s) with insulated pliers to see if rpm's change?
No chance any wires got crossed eh? Sorry, had to ask.
Swapped plugs, wires, with bad cylinder to see if problem moves or remains?

the spark plug socket size is 5/8"x 3/8" drive and you need a 3/8 drive 3" or 6" extension with a 3/8 drive ratchet and a spark plug gapping tool to make sure the plugs are gapped properly.the drain plug is either a 1/2" or 7/8" wrench depending if it has been replaced due to being bad.

04 mazda 3s 2.3l. the emgine misfires randomly but frequently. does have power loss and poor gas mileage. there is no check engine light and had recent sparkplug change with motorcraft platnums and oil...

I have changed plugs using the platinum plugs and the problem don't go away. These plugs can make a car run worse in some cases. I have found it best to use the OEM or a step above on 4 cylin and 6 cylin engines. The Plats work fine in 8 cylin engines. You could also have a bad plug wire. The plug wire could be jumping spark. At night, open the hood, start the car with lights off. Look around the plug wires for sparks jumping. If a wire is bad, the spark is leaving the wire and grounding itself to the nearest metal causing rough engine idle and misfire.

1998 grown victoria started running rough after gasing up i went from mid grade to regular then the car runs rough and shaky idle will the c/o2 sensor cause this? sure could use some help

Computers in Cars now a days adjust the air/fuel mixture on their own for different types of gas used. I would put a bottle of dry gas in the tank. Use an isopropyl alcohol base, not methenol. It removes moisture, methenol doesn't. You can put in a fuel system cleaner too at the same time. You might also need to change the fuel filter. If the check engine light isn't on, the O2 sensor is ok. But if you don't get it running right the sensor might carbon up and eventually the cat. converter could load up and plug.

2004 Dodge Intrepid Check Engine Light & Bad Fuel Mileage

If it has never had plugs changed, i would suggest it. It can make a big difference.

Labor time is .8 hrs + 6 plugs = $80 - $150.

Take your car to a parts place and they will usually check and clear your light for free.

Firestone likes to up-sell everything, $650 is way too much for a basic tune up.
