1990 Jeep Cherokee cuts out/hesitates

My 90 Cherokee cuts out often when barely applying the throttle. It is a manual, 4.0 with out A/C.
Fuel pressure test indacates that the fuel pressure goes from 31 to 35 when it cuts out. Runs great idleing, and running down the road, but when you barely apply throttle it tries to die. Good mat sensor, good fuel, new fuel filter, added "HEAT" incase of water in tank, and added STP injector cleaner. does not throw a code. Any questions ask so I may help diagnose issue. I had this same problem, and honestly no one could ever tell mme what the real problem was. So I just started replacing everything when I got paid. I even changed it over to a msd distributor and ignition system. I replaced alot of sensors but to be honest I don't know what ended up fixing it. I had to replace a couple of fuel injectors that the jeep dealer swears up and down didn't have anything to do with the problem. The dealer nor any mechanic I went to could tell me anything. It was just replace everything till it went away.

Check you distributor grab it and see if its loose. if it is check to make sure its tightened down. and if it is tight and it moves around you need a new one. another thing to check is if you have a cat. it may be plugged and the excaust is not flowing. try unbolting it and see what happens

I would check the voltage on the throttle portion sensor with the engine off from idle to wide open throttle.If there are any dead spots, replace the sensor. If the tps checks out, you should check fuel pressure. If you have good fuel pressure, you may want to make sure there isn't a lot of slack in your timing chain. I don't believe you mentioned the mileage of your vehicle. Best of luck.

Rough idle and stumble through acceleration. The fuel filter, Pressure regulator, Throttle body and tps have all been replaced as well as a full tune up. The fuel pump runs 90% of the time and other times...

You need to check the fuel pressure to the throttle body. If the fuel pump is nearly worn out, it will display similar symptoms. Did you read out any codes on the computer before starting this repair? Good luck!

90 model jeep cherokee larado....runs great but...sometimes has a skip when ideling and when it starts that then when u give it gas and try to rev it up it dies sensor ? idle air ? anyother...

check the tps to see if the ohms are right,it may just need adjusting.then check the cps just to rule it out.but it sounds like its your fuel pressure regulator.

90 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Replaced the throttle body, and fuel pump. When it starts it revs up to 2100 RPM's then dies.

Fuel system should be ok. check for air leaks around throttle body, make sure TBI gasket or o-ring are not sucking air which will cause high RPM's, also check for vaccum leaks.

I need to know where the fuel pressure regulator is on a 1990 jeep cherokee?

If it has port injection it is on the front of the fuel rail. If throttle body inj. it's on the tb body itself.

Hesitates and cuts out when I accelerates, shakes and sputters!

Fuel filters are cheap and simple to change, so try that first. If that is not your problem it may be your catalytic converter. Before having that replaced, check your fuel return line. You should be able to blow thru the line with your mouth. If you can't, or it's really hard to do. . . then you have blockage. The blockage could be flooding your engine with fuel. Checking the fuel pressure with a gauge from an auto parts store may help you out. If the pressure is really high, then that may be your problem.

The 1987-90 Jeep Cherokee with the Renix Eletronic Engine controls take somewhere between 4-7 revolutions before the computer has enough information to get the engine started.

If it takes longe rthan that, it may be time for a full tune-up:
Distibutor Cap and rotor
Spark plugs
Spark Plug wires
Fuel filter
Air filter
and possibly an oxygen sensor
