Have exactly the same problem, was told could be a fuse or the cable from button to transmission. Not sure where to find the fuse or cable for shifter button.

Wife had the same issue, plus it seemed to delay re-engaging when you would coast at 50+mph then step on gas (you could feel it grab after a second).

I read somewhere that most likely cause was a broken wire going into the shifter. Should be located under the console somewhere.

Ours went to dealership before I could tear into it, for just shy of $200 they fixed it.

Dealing with same issue, also when in main automatic mode, intermittenly seems to "get lost" while coasting and then reaccelerating. What I've found out so far it seems the data cable to the transmission is the problem, thin wires, tight fit and break in wire causes effect. Working on sourcing a new cable. Dealer thought transmission module (500.00 usd). Going cable route first due to cost and common sense.

Rear defogger won,t work

Check basic fuses first.

If the button that works the defogger lights up continue reading.
Many Impalas and Malibus have wiring that corrodes by the passenger side kick panel along the lower side A pillar. There is a connector with many pins that gets ruined. I dunno if malibus have a fuse box here as well like the impalas, but check there. might have to sneak a peek under the carpet. but it takes like 15 minute to check.
very common for defoggers that dont work when the fuses are good and the button lights up.

2004 Malibu Maxx keeps blowing horn fuse. Works when I replace fuse for about 6 times. Horn itself feels touchy as in only works when pressed certain way. Shift paddle on side of shifter also does not...

Try disconnecting the horn itself from the circiut, hold the horn button on for a while,if the fuse no longer blows,it's a safe bet the horn itself was the culprit,if it still burns the fuse, the wiring or clockspring are shorting out

Im having problems with my 05 maxx..... electrical???

I would get all the electrical schematics and then look for problems like blown fuses affecting the areas you are describing. Then systematically troubleshoot the wiring. Simple.
Now, I am looking for the mentioned schematics on the web. I just bought (2010-01-28) a 2005 Malibu Maxx, and can't wait to have it ready for pickup in 2 days...

I need to know the location of the Transmission dipstick on a 2006 malibu maxx LTZ 3.5 lite, as the car is not shifting properly shifting,it runs as its stuck in 2nd gear and yet its an automatic...

If you can't find the stick, likely you have one of GM's "better ideas"...See if there is a fill cap on top of the trans, If it's there, there is a plug on the right side of the transmission. Remove the plug and on flat ground, fill 'till fluid comes out of the fill hole, then re-install the plug.
But, the condition you have outlined sounds like the trans control is stuck in "limp mode" and may need attention (trans diagnostics) to determine if your problem is in the trans or the control itself. Especially if you see no obvious leaks fluid may not be your problem.
