Question about 2000 Ford Escort
I have a 1998 Ford Countour My check engine light has been on ever sinced I replaced the timimg belt. Then the oxygen & coolant sensor was bad. I repaired them and the check engine light is still on. The check engine light is still on I've been driving the car for almost a year and two diffrent mechanics say two diffrent things. The first says the transmission sensor is now no good, the 2nd says the cam sensor with vct sprocket and timing belt is no good Total cost $1400 is this correct ? should I just get another used car.
The cam sensor and VCT sprocket is a fairly common problem on those cars and $1400 is a bit on the high side, but not terribly so. A new car might be in your future. If it runs ok, I would not worry about it though. The VCT adjusts timing for fuel efficiency and emmisions and won't hurt the car to drive. Though your fuel mileage and performance may suffer a bit.
