Question about 2001 GMC Sonoma Extended Cab

1 Answer

Bad Vibrations I have a problem with a vibration it isn't present at speeds up to 30 mph. But above that it starts. by the time I get to highway speed 55 and up it comes and goes. The best way to describe it is a soft vibration the a strong vibration then soft then strong then soft you get the idea. I have had the tires balanced many times, new rotors and bearings, new drums new tires, new shocks, driveshaft rebalanced & new u joints installed,Ft end aligned,I have lowered the truck with Beltech leafs and 1 inch drop block in the rear, springs and drop spindles in Ft. Total drop was 3 or 4 " in the front and 5 in the rear. She was realigned after the drop. It look like I have about 3 degrees in the pinion angle but have not done anything to it to achieve this, just bolted it together and started to drive her again. I'm thinking it might be something in the trans like toque converter.of flex plate.

A vibration such as you are talking about could be caused by more then one thing. First it could be caused by a broken belt in one of your tires. I could also be caused by a bent rim, a warped rotter, or a bad cv joint. I hope this helps you solve your problem.

60mph speed vibrations: have your tires checked. They may be out of balance. One way to tell is to run your hand flat over the tread surface as you go around the tire. other than the space between the treads, you should feel a relatively smooth tire. If you notice raised treads, lumpiness or uneveness in treads then you may need to change tire. Have suspension checked. As for the floor board knock, have your motor and transmission mounts checked.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2003 vibrations at 30 mph to 45 mph only when accelerating. What could cause this? Not sure about the first answer, any second opinions?

One possible cause is a worn universal joint. The first symptoms are usually a powertrain vibration at a certain rpm or speed. A visual inspection will sometimes show powdery residue by one of the bearing caps.

Sounds like you may have a worn out CV joint and the clicking may stop with an oil change. Good Luck
