Question about 2001 GMC Sonoma Extended Cab

1 Answer

Engine Swap I have a 4.3 L V6 with a 4L60E trans and I'm wondering how to drop in a V8? Will the trans bolt up to it and can I beef up the fiction plates in this unit to take the abuse of the V8? Is the toque converter a bolt up or should i change it also? I also was wondering if the stock radiator needed to be replaced to a larger one to accommodate the added heat this is in a 2001 GMC Sonoma same as a Chevy S10.

I have a 2000 S10 2.2 manual 5 speed, 2wd that I would like to convert to a V6. Do I need to change the transmission and rear end and will my 5 sp bolt up to the V6

the 2000 s-10 came with optional engine the 4.3 LT V6 262 engine should bolt right in -- rear is fine but u will need all the electronics for engine and trans -the trans bolt up is different from the 4 to the 6 engine bell housing ,clutch ,slave etc the trans itself should be usable if u get the proper bell housing

Changing from 98 2.5 man.tranny,to 01 3.9

WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?

V6 to v8

I swapped mine out and put in a 350 with a turbo 350. The rear end is not posi but if that's not a problem the drive shaft will work but you'll have to get a new trans mount. you can get one from Summit or jegs. Also the motor mounts will have to be moverd to the furthest front position. Best to put the mounts in then try the engine for fit before you bolt in the trans. You'll also have to rerun the fuel line to the other side. There are some other minor mods but you do them as you go along.
