If you can locate the power feed wire to it, then go to fuse panel & look for a cavity not used. With test light or meter, find an empty one that only gets power with key on. Remember some of the cavities (empty spots in panel) may only have contact on one side currently, so make sure your on that one side when testing. There's your source, if all else fails, you may have to find one under hood in fuses there, and run wire out through firewall by steering column area, where there should be 1 or more rubber plugs you can slip wire through.

Add 12 volt outlet switched by ignition

maybe try getting your 12v feed from the radio power, this should be connected to the ignition switch and will run when the key is turned to accessory or the ignition is turned on

I have a 96 Suzuki swift and everytime I turn the ignition to on the ignition fuse blows. replaced coil, checked all wiring everything good but don't know what it is...does it everytime

The ignition switch supplies power to many items including the cigarette lighter, dash lights ,instruments, radio. immobilizer, CPU , ABS and traction control. The first one I would check is the lighter as if the coil inside is dirty it may be shorting out .

Cigarette lighter wont work on my 1998 acura 3.2 tl. Dont see a fuse under the hood

The cigarette lighter works only with the ignition switch in the ACC or ON position. In the under-dash fuse/relay box, you will find the cigarette lighter relay and the 10A RADIO fuse 11. If the fuse is OK, check 15A INTERIOR LIGHT fuse 57 in the underhood fuse/relay box. If OK, check 50A IG SW fuse 36

i would remove the shroud around the steering wheel and check for power to the ignition switch first and it could be the contact has broke inside the ignition switch ??

Is their anyway to get the power socket, cigarette lighter kind, to turn off when i turn off the car?

There are two ways of going about it. The best way to do it would be to use a relay. Cut the 12v+ wire going to the cigarette lighter, hook one side up to terminal 87 and the other side to 30 of the relay. Ground pin 85 and hook up pin 86 to a switched ignition wire. Doesn't matter too much which ignition switched wire you use. The radio is near by and has a switched ignition wire you can tap off of. The relay draws very little current so it won't affect the other circuit. Doing it this way keeps the power to the cigarette lighter on the original circuit, but switches it on when the ignition is on. You can purchase an automotive relay like the one pictured at radio shack or any auto supply store for a few bucks.

Help, I only have the cigarette lighter port and no power ports

The fastest way is to add an auxilary power port. You can get at O'Reilly or any good car location.
Mount the unit in a convenient place under the dash.
Connect the red to a live always on wire or run out through the firewall and to the pos term on the battery.
Connect the ground to a good metal connection under the dash.

You can also find the original unit at Crysler or junk yard, but the 1st concept is much easier to implement.

Doug

Radio and cigarette lighter

Check behind the dash for loose wiring connections. Check for bulkhead connectors that could have possibly come partially apart. Check for any under dash grounds that are ready to break or have become frayed.
