98 accent loses engine revs when clutch pressed

Hi, i have a 1.3l 98 accent, when you press down on the clutch pedel the engine will lose revs and go to nearly stall, it then also most straight away comes back to a low idle speed, this only happens when the clutch is pressed, but when the car is parked with clutch preesed or not the car idles at a low ldle ok, but rev it when parked and it will do the same(go under revs), now what is strange is that it only does this every now and then, anyone any ideas what it can be? thanks

I think you will find the clutch plate needs replacing. Your symptoms sound like a slipping clutch. You will need to take it to a mechanic, this is not a job for a handy man.

Sonata losing power

Hmm, it's hard to diagnose without being there in person. Whatever help I can give you is this: The 9 causes of why an engine does not exert as much power as it should to take off right away as soon as you press down:

To change gears, I need to fully press down on my clutch pedal to stop a grinding noise on my hyundai accent 2001Can I adjust the clutch cable,

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

In a manual 2001 Hyundai Accent, the clutch cable could be adjusted. The adjustment point is on the cable 'pad' where it enters the firewall in the engine compartment.

To adjust, the slack or free play must be decreased. This is done by turning the adjusting nut clockwise. Check back by pressing on the clutch pedal to your preference.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
