Good Morning. My ABS light comes on intermittently in my 2001 Nissan Xterra SE model. The light will stay on until I turn the car off, but when I start it back up later the light is off. For the light to come on I don't even have to depress the brake pedal, just driving down the road seems to trigger the dipslay. Could someone please explain to me what might be causing this? I've had someone check the brakes and was told all is well there. I'm uncertain of what to try next. Thank you for your time and consideration.

A lot of times the sensors on each wheel become covered with brake dust if you remove the wheels and clean the sensor with brake cleaner this will solve the problem but keep in mind it may happen again when the brake dust gets on the sensor again

Brakes abs

Have the ABS codes pulled, this will give you an idea of what is going on. It sounds like a faulty speed sensor, but check codes 1st.

Abs light off turn

Dpending on the vehicle make and model ( always good to give that info when asking for help on a vehicle repair) , the ABS system actually performs a self-test everytime the ignition switch is turned on and if there is no faults present within the system the ABS light will illuminate and then go off. If ,however , there are faults with in the system the ABS module will set a trouble code for the circuit at fault and then the ABS light will come on and stay on until the key has been turned off and recycled to the on position. If the problem still exists then the light will act just as it did the first time and stay on. If the system passes, then the light will come on during self-test and then go off upon passing self-test. The only other way that a light will come on and go back off on its on is on some models when an intermittent fault is detected.
But to answer your question, the only way to get the light to go off and stay off is to repair the cause of the light coming on (repairing the fault in the system). You will need to have access to a code reader that can access ABS systems or take it to a trusted repair facility and have the system diagnosed to determine direstion of repair.
Hope this helps

My ABS light came on for about 30 minutes and the went off- I have a 2001 Xterra

If it goes on, the computer has found an error, and if it goes off, the error is gone. Most vehicles will store a fault, but if your light stays off, you are good. (Normally goes on with wheel sensor issues, such as bad wheel sensors, or miss-sized tires)

Remeove rear combination tail light cover 2006 Nissan XTERRA

thode screws hold the lens or the light assembly? Allow for the whole tail light to come out and the bulb plug will be accessible. I never had the privilage. But how the lens fits will tell you. If the lens goes overthe edges, the whole unit comes out, lens is sealed. Good luck

first clean the sensor located at the wheels. if problem is the same then you might need to replace the sensor.
