Question about 2004 Lincoln LS

1 Answer

2004 Lincoln LS V6 A/C when idling doesn't blow cold air

While riding down the road the a/c blows cold with no problem. When you stop at a stop light (or in a parking lot) the a/c still blows but the air is not cold. Took to a 'local' mechanic and they siad the high pressure side is reading 140 and it should be closer to 200-225. Suggest replacing the compressor to correct the problem. Does this sound correct?

Car blows warm air when idling

It sounds like your AC unit could be overheating or even damaged.

AC units have a sensor that will turn them off automatically to prevent damage from overheating. If there is an insufficient amount of air flow, the unit will heat up, and then eventually turn off.

When the car is moving, more air is forced over the unit, likely keeping it cool enough to run, however, when the car come to a stop, it loses that air flow, and quickly heats up. Thus, the AC would work while the vehicle is in motion, and overheat and stop when the car is stopped and idling.

However, the AC unit could be completely blown. The cold air while moving could be just a case of air being forced into the car. Think of a house fan, the fast the wind blows on you, the cooler it gets.... Thus, it could be an illusion that the AC is working when car is in motion, when it really isn't.

Hope this helps.

05 Lincoln LS 3.0 V6. Outside air temp 32F. Idle decay when cold

This sounds like you have a pcv hose that has become an open vacuum leak. It is located under the upper intake, or given the year your air filter box may not be correctly sealed and possibly have a mass air flow sensor concern. Any Check engine light or codes to work with ? I f you have further questions just leave a comment on my page,

Heat

If this car is remote start GM has a service bulletin out to do a computer flash to correct this problem, it will probably blow hot air in the summer if it remote started if you don't have the computer flash done. Hope this helps
