Check the large probably 100 amp fuse under the PDC cover. Is this a 12 valve or 24 valve engine? If it's a 12 valve, it may be a bad crank sensor. It tells the PCM to turn on the ASD relay which supplies power to the alternator field.

First check any ignition/fuel related fuses. Check to make sure you have 12 volts coming into the pump and coil. If nothing to the fuel pump replace the fuel pump relay - if you do have power to the fuel pump then replace the pump. If nothing is coming to the coil it is either an ignition relay or a wiring issue. If you have 12 volts to the coil but no spark then replace the coil.
Also the fuel pump/relay would not kill the coil.

For 1987 Dodge Truck RAM 50 4WD 2.6L 2BL 4cyl...
The mechanical fuel pump is mounted on the side of the head, centered
between the runners of the intake manifold. The intake manifold does not
require removal, but access can be tricky. A selection of socket
extensions, swivels and open end wrenches can be helpful.
