Check all vacuum lines and electric connections. It sounds like a Throttle position sensor or an EGR valve problem. If it idles too slow there are a few screws to turn like on the old carburetors. The vacuum routing is on a label and you may have the wrong hose somewhere.

Head gasket or intake manifold gaste again 96 k1500 5.7 vortec. starts runs idles and drives rough it likes to **** while trying to drive almost as if it wants to stall out. i put my scanner on it and

The website has software that looks for obscene words.
I would think a compression test would show if the cylinder is having mechanical problems. And yes the intake or head gasket could be leaking again, especially if the intake or head were warped or cracked.
Have you checked fuel pressure ?
Does the spark plug for cylinder 5 show signs of coolant leaking into the cylinder ?

Hey, My 2004 Ford Thunderbird is overheating. its not the water pump or thermostat. What can it be?

Did you actually replace the thermostat? I own a 04 t-bird and ran into the same issue, thermostat checked out fine when the engine was warm, but was flakey on cold starts. I replaced the thermostat and the car was fine.

96 s10 2.2 cyl. . started spitting an sputtering like water in fuel. What could this to happen? What should i do first?

This is a very common problem with the 2.2 Liter engine. The Cylinder Head Gasket has most likely failed due to expansion and contraction of dissimilar metals. The Cylinder head is Aluminum and the Cylinder Block is Cast Iron. The Cylinder Head expands at a greater rate than the Cylinder Block creating a Scrubbing Action on the Head Gasket. Another problem on this engine is the passenger side rearmost Cylinder Head Bolt is typically overtightened at the factory distorting the Cylinder Head and causing Gasket Failure directly around that bolt. I have had to resurface cylinder heads and replaced gaskets on many of these engines where these symptoms were described.

I have a 1993 bmw 318i with 220,000 0n the clock. rough idol.

White smoke means water getting into cylinders. Usually leaking head gasket, or possible intake manifold gasket if the manifold is heated with water! You need to see your service people again. Weather conditions should never cause this problem. The oil leak might be fixed by tightening all of the perimeter bolts on the oil pan.

Head bolt torque specs needed for 96 tbird 3.8

Head bolts are torque to yeild so you MUST use new bolts.
Tighten cylinder head retaining bolts in numerical sequence in three steps as follows:
  1. 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  1. 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  1. 50 Nm (37 lb-ft)
Loosen retaining bolts one at a time two to three revolutions and retighten as follows:

Long bolts:
  • Tighten to 40-50 Nm (30-37 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.
Short Bolts:
  • Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.
Here is a pic of the sequence

1994 t-bird lx 3.8 car start for a sec. but stalls

Could be bad gas ( underground water seepage is more common in the winter ). You need to verify that your getting fuel to the rails and that the fuel is OK. Next, check your fuel regulator at the fuel rail. Sometimes when they go bad they will let too much fuel go past and the injectors will flood out. This happened to a Bronco I had. Check the fuel pressure at the rail. Sounds like fuel related, not spark.

White smoke

Sound most likely like a head gasket - Check your coolant level and if low it is possible that coolant is entering into the engine. I would not driving the vehicle as driving the engine would cause more damage.

Cracked Head Gasket???

The cylinder that is missing will indeed set a code, all 96 up cars and trucks sold in the US have this self diagnostic ability, the system is called OBD 2
Yes you are right the repair should be performed for free if it is the same problem, head or head gasket, take this matter up with your local authorities dept of consumer affairs if the shop refuses to help you.
