How to change a timing belt with a 2.4ltr motor?

Lift the car on lift and remove right tire . Remove front engine mount on the timing cover. Remove timing cover. Align the top timing mark on camshaft to the mark on back cover. Crankshaft will align automatically. Lose the belt tensioner and remove the belt.
I will suggest to replace the water pump and the seal on the camshaft and crankshaft. Install the belt and turn by hand crankshaft twice. make sure the marks align again. Install the cover, mount, serpentine belt.refill coolant. Bleed the system and run the engine till warm and radiator fan start. Cool and check the coolant level again.
good luck

Need to know how to set the timing belt on A 91 plymouth laser. Or A diagram on where the marks need to line up

First off I would strongly recommend you purchase a haynes or equivalent service manual. There are 2 indentations on the cam gears. There is an arrow on the oil pump (lower right) sprocket. There is a small dimple indentation on the crank pulley sprocket. The crank pulley dowel pin faces up. Actually, lol

My car started to smoke.I have a 91 plymouth laser

When installing a new timing belt, I always rotate the engine by hand (or rather wrench) before trying to start and recheck the timing marks at least twice to make sure the belt hasn't slipped a notch. Since the engine with which I am most familiar is an interference type, I am very cautious with it; one tooth off and it won't rev but three teeth off and it results in bent valves.

Timing belt jumped.

You have damaged the Valves so the head will have to be removed and recondtioned at a machine shop or buy a rebuilt at auto supply house, the head will cost $250.. with an exchange head. you will have to replace pushrods for the valves if so equipped, and antifreeze oil and filter lifters as well so figure about $500.00 to $800.00 to do the fix to make it run right, they will punt in a new water pump and a new timing belt tensioner and belt and other things that you will not understand.

How to replace timing belt on a 1991 plymouth lazer 2.0 turbo

If the belt has broken, the valves will be bent. This is an interference engine and there is no escaping it, the head will have to come off. It is not an easy job, belt access is poor, and there is a balance belt as well. Unless you have a lot of experience and tools, I would not recommend attempting this at home.

1993 plymouth laser

This is a interference motor. If the timing belt broke the valves will have fallen in to the cylinder and you will need over hall. Yes it is true so you will also need a head to this motor . call a local repair shop to confirm . If it is a SOCH or DOCH 2.0 I am sure of it . Now you can get lucky but it is rare. if it sounds like a sewing machane when you try and start it then it is broke for sure.
