Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Need to change battery in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Old battery seems to be stuck and won't come out. The tray holding the battery appears to have an edge that prevents the battery from being pulled out. Any ideas?

is the an edge on both sides? can you unbolt one of the edges ?

it should have had a clamp holding it down, sometimes its a clamp that goes over the battery, other times the edge is removable, if it had a clamp over the battery then you might have to push it into one of the edges and tilt it as you lift.

There should be a bolt on one side of the battery with a bracket that locks the battery in position. Use some WD40 on the bolt because it is probably rusted and will need to be treated before taking it out. Just unscrew it and take it and the bracket off and the battery will lift right out. Good Luck, RAC

check fuses.
then scan it.
the scan tool will in fact tell you what the trans is stuck
The PCM shifts the gears, so if it cant, it complains big time.
those are called DTC errors.
all shops in town can scan, or you can buy one and DIY.
on all modern cars. 96+

at 25mph 2nd should happen.
if not, the trans will log, DTC errors. for it.
but it's best to scan and see all errors.
there are are other issues, limphome on engine and transmission.
but the DTC errors show that too.

you likely need a new battery. An old battery or one with a dead cell won't hold a charge.

your transmission is in "limp home" mode, the problem is one of the sensors on your transmission. you need to have an obdII scanner connected to read the codes stored in your vehicles computer. this will tell you which sensor has failed
