Question about 1997 Honda Accord
One day when driving my car, it just stopped, like went in neutral and would not go in gear. Got car home and it went in gear but quickly resumed to neutral and doing nothing. No weird noises or fluid leaks. Few days before this I got a code for the torque converter shift solenoid (think its a P0740)....tested solenoids and they were good.
I Decided to replace tranny with one that had less mileage and was able to do a test drive around the block, then it started doing the exact same thing as before. The only difference was a whining sound and we were told that is usually signs of torque converter going out. Now, I am about to install another transmission and I want to know if it could be something else and not the tranny....Electronically maybe? TCU or ??? If it was something like that, wouldn't it have thrown a code?
Any and ALL advice is greatly appreciated! Please help me in the direction I should be going.....Thanks so much!
Question: Can I use a tranny from a 98 model?
You cannot use a trans from a 98...and also, i recommend replaceing the torque converter as well with the next trans u install...also, the trans u put in may have been bad as well..i suggest u replace this next one with a remanufactured trans and torque converter...here in california, there is a place called H&A transmissions that rebuild Honda and Acura trans only..they are very good and they usually can get one fairly quick...wherever u get the next one, just get a reman or rebuilt one with a warranty...u dont want to have to do it again...
