Transmission slipping on 97 buick lesabre

It seems to happen when the car is cold, the speedometer will read 0 even when the rpms are reved up

The clutch apply seals have hardened or rolled over. Only a transmission rebuild will fix. Try to get a used one to save some money.

Circuit Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slip by calculating the difference between the engine speed and the transmission output shaft speed.
If the PCM detects an excessive amount of slip when the TCC is engaged, then DTC P1870 sets. DTC P1870 is a type B DTC.

This is no transmission sensor problem, it is a mechanical issue in the transmission.

Where is the speedometer cable located on a 97


there is no speedometer cable. there is a vss (vehicle speed sensor) located on tail shaft of transmission by the right front axle.

My transmission in my 97 buick lesabre slips when i go over 3500rpms. would changing the filter help or is it the clutch??


its worth a try, ive found that a bg flush on the trany does amazing things, its a 50/50 shot, ive had cars slipping not shifting and it helped, this is not a sure thing its a try, hope this helps.

yes that is a transmission problem this can happen when your very low on fluid,check your fluid level,no guarentee

Sounds like you have a faulty transmission output speed sensor or connector problem.

Check the fuse box and replace the gauge fuse if it's bad, Keep me posted if the fuse is good and we can move to the nest step, and that would be a possible wire harness problem on the instrument panel, and does the transmission shift like it should all the way to over drive (OD)?? Good luck

Buick LeSabre speedometer problem


My speedometer was stopped working, It was reading 40 mph when I was going around 65. Than it dropped to 0.
After I turned off ignition everything now works.
