Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

2000 Windstar cannot start

Hi my 2000 Windstar had the starter changed and it started really good, tested it about 5 times and it worked fine.
About an hour later I started it within 5 minutes it turned off and when I tried to started it again it would not start, even the dash warning lights won't light up.
I checked the battery and it was fine, I checked the starter and alternator and they were good and electricity was reaching them.
I checked all the related fuses, in the inside of the car and in the motor and they were good. Even when those places register power the car is electrically dead. Nothing seems to work when I turned the switch on (I checked the switch and it was ok.).

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2000 WINDSTAR SEL LAST WEEK..IT WAS JUST ELECTRICALLY DEAD..I CHECKED OVER THAT THING WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB AND COULD NOT AT FIRST FIND THE PROBLEM..WELL AS IT TURNS OUT, MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS BAD AND IT WAS CAUSING ALL THIS HAVICK !!! I REPLACED THE CLUSTER ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO PROGRAM IT BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD START DUE TO THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM..IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM BUT IT IS IDENTICAL TO MINE AND I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS..
P.S.-I GOT MY CLUSTER AT A JUNKYARD BECAUSE A NEW ONE CAN BE PRICEY !!

Could have a bad cable , to check voltage drop starter circuit ! Starter Voltage Drop Watch some other voltage drop testing videos ! You need a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter to do this testing .

My 2000 Nissan Maxima will not start-no clicking, just dead. The battery was tested and is good.

You probably need a new starter. Try locating the starter and hit on it 2 or 3 times, then try starting the vehicle again......If it starts then you need a new starter.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Since you have power inside the car, the battery and power connection should be good. You still want to make sure you have the best possible connection because if the starter isn't getting the correct amount of volts, it won't turn. So clean your battery terminals and post to make sure. Check your ignition fuse too. It should be labeled and shouls be located in the engine compartment fuse box. You may have a bad starter if the two steps before check out. You can take a hammer or pole, just something to make contact with your starter. You want to tap it five to seven times. Then try to start the van. If it starts, you have a bad starter and need to get it changed. I am thinking it is the starter because you have been having starting problems. Hit it and see if your van will crank up. Let me know what happens.

#1 Try starting the car in Neutral, if no start replace the Park and Neutral safty switch. #2 Check for a faulty starter solenoid. #3 Check for a faulty stsrter motor. #4 Check for a faulty ignition switch. #5 Check for faulty starter Relays.#6 Check the Transmission Range sensor it could be out of adjustment or defective. #7 On 1998 and later models, the power relay is in the power distribution box in the engine compartment. Your not on a fishing trip

If you suspect the battery, charge it fully and have it tested

For the starter, starter solenoid, you need experience in how to test

The Alternator has nothing to do with starting the vehicle

Education and a really good, close by repair shop, before you need one

Wild guess but the car will not start if it does not get the in "Park" or "Neutral" signal from the column switch. check for that it may just be so.

My 2000 GMC Jimmy will not start. Changed the starter fuse and it worked for 2 starts and went back to not even tring to crank over. Checked the new fuse it was already blown...changed it again and it will...

Hi:
You really need to remove your starter and have it tested. If the fuse is blowing, then something, most likely the starter, is drawing too much current. Most places like auto zone will test your starter for free, so other than your effort to remove it, it will be a cheap thing to do, and it is most likely the cause.

2000 ford windstar won't crank over, but pats keys good, and batt.

First thing I would check is to see if you have power at the trigger wire of the starter motor while someone is trying to start the vehicle for you. It will be a Yellow with a light blue trace. If you do then I would check to see if the main battery cable has power to it all the time when someone is trying to crank it. If it does then I would hold a test light on the case of the starter motor and have someone try to crank it. Make sure that the ground you use for this test is on the negative battery terminal not just anywhere on the car. If the test light lights while you are cranking it then you have a bad ground. Hook up a set of jumper cables from the battery negative terminal and clamp it directly on to your starter motor and see if it starts. If you check it and the test light doesn't light up and all the other checks are good then your starter motor has failed. If one of the other tests has failed then you have a starter relay problem or something else. let me know what you find out.
