are you using coolant? adding coolant? Is it leaking on the carpet on the passenger side floor? carpet wet? If yes - heater core is leaking.

Check the cap. Sometime a small thing like that can release just enough to cause the smell. ANothe place to check is the freeze plugs, they may rust or oxidize and deteriorate over time.

Best way and safe to check coolant leak. Use or you can rent one from
auto part store. "Radiator pump presure tester"
Let the engine cold down and hook it to radiator filler neck make sure it's good tight then pum untill you feel some presure, then it time to check for leak. You'll be able to see water comes out.

How do i know if the intake manifold is the problem with my 2001 taurus

Have you noticed any antifreeze in the oil..Its got to be going somewhere..If its going through the intake,,then the antifreeze will be steaming out the exhaust or end up in the oil...You really need to have in pressure tested and look for the leak..Can you smell it??? It will have a sweet smell around the engine compartment...Autozone may have a pressure tester you can rent ,,or they may be able to test it for you

Have to replace antifreeze every two months. Can't find leak. Can smell antifreeze when first get into car to drive. thanks Jesse Weaver nc

i bet the leak is in the heater rad!,,,i know a quick way to stop a small leak, go out and buy some "radiator sealer" or "rad seal",,,"engine block sealer" "engine weld" they all work just as well,,if its not cold dont put in the antifreeze that just a pain and kind of looks for leaks,
and finds them too?

Rough idle, check engine light FLASHES,smell of engine coolant, yet no leak is visible

Go to an Autozone or Oreillys for a free engine scan. This will help you find the problem.

You could have an intake gasket or head gasket leaking into a cylinder. The scanner will show if a cylinder is misfiring and which cylinder it is. You can also get a loaner tool such as a Radiator pressure tester which can pressurize the system without the engine running. In some cases, antifreeze can evaporate or run off while the car is in motion.

Once you repair the part use some household detergent and hot water and clean the area you repaired. The smell from antifreeze will linger for months if you do not remove it. Also after you repair the problem, use the pressure tester again to insure the repair is holding.

My car is low on antifreeze but i cant find where it is leaking I had a relay switch put on ago and it ran fine until this morning and i smelled antifreeze

If you smelled antifreeze, then It just might be the heater core. Check around the floor on the passenger side to see if it is wet. Or, when you start up, do you see any fog like vapour coming out the defrost vent, with any residue on the inside of the windshield. If not this, then put a pressure tester on the rad at 15 lbs. That should show.

Strong antifreeze smell when running the heater in 99 silverado, can't see a leak, strong smell, is heater core bad

Usually a smell of antifreeze in the cab when the heater is running is a sign the heater core is leaking. Just becasue you dont see a leak at this time doesn't mean there isn't one. It might small enough that the haet from the core is burning off the leaking antifreeze. I would suggest replacing the core before you get in one day and there is a puddle on your floorboard. Or if you go to a local parts store and rent a cooling system pressure tester, wait until the vehicle is cold, pressure the system to 12 lbs and then check for leaks. Hope this helps you out......

2004 Freelander Coolant Leak

With problems like this the only sure way is to go to a workshop and get them to pressure test the cooling system, that is if you dont have a pressure tester yourself. Then it should be seen where you are losing coolant. It may leak from any where, hoses, loose clips, even the filler cap. Is there any sign of antifreeze that has dried
hope this helps
