Question about 1998 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

E10 stud I have a buick lesabre with the 3800 that requires you to take the motor mount stud out to change the serpintine belt. I think that the stud is an e10 reverse torx. The problem is that the stud tip broke off and I can probably get the stud out with some vice grips or some other method. My problem is where do I get a new stud. I have searched online with no avail. Where can I get a e10 or other type stud to fit my block. Thanks very much. Derek

GM still has the engine mount, not sure about the bolt. How about a junk yard? Also check the 'Nutty company' located in Connecticut, they carry all sorts of nuts and bolts, and might be able to help.

Replacing serpintine belt , does motor mount have to come off?

No, you do not have to remove the engine mount adapter. If you raise the vehicle up you can remove the nut, stud, and the spacer from the adapter to get the belt off. You'll need an inverted torx socket to remove the stud. You may have to remove the right front wheel and the side engine cover to gain access to the nut, spacer, and stud. Once you get the belt on and if you find it hard to get the spacer back in, you can grind a little off the end of the spacer so you can slide it in between the adapter and the engine block.

How to change serpintine belt for 97 buick le sabre

These were a real pain in the neck to change, you may want to take it to a shop if you don't have a lot of experience. The hassle of doing it yourself may outweigh the cost.
Here's the procedure, but it is easier said than done:

  1. Remove the following components.
    1. The engine mounting bracket lower nut.
    2. The engine mounting bracket lower stud.
    3. The engine mounting bracket lower spacer.
  1. Remove the belt.

  1. Install the belt. Refer to Engine Mount in order to install the following components:
    • The engine mounting bracket lower nut.
    • The engine mounting bracket lower stud.
    • The engine mounting bracket lower spacer.daves944.gif

Replacing serpentine accessory belt. Is it necessary to remove motor mounting brace to remove and install new serpentine belt?

From my understanding I think you have to remove the motor mount and mount the engine to remove it because I have been asking different mechanics about the serpintine belt on my 1998 Buick Lasabre.

How do you change serpatin belt on 98 buick lesabre with a 3.8 liter looks like you have to take motor mount loose?

The manual has this step in it: "remove the engine mounting bracket lower nut, stud and spacer. Carefully lower the vehicle."

It never said to raise the vehicle, so I think there is an error here.
However, it is an indication that the belt needs to slip under the motor mount.

Recommend you put a floor jack under the engine, prop it up, remove the mount stud, and lower or raise the engine as needed to get the belt out.

If you don't have a floor jack, you can accomplish the same using the car jack on the regular jack point, jacking it up, and then putting some bricks and 2 by 4s under the pan. Then let the car down until the engine touches. Take the nut off the stud and raise or lower the car as needed to open a gap for the belt to pass thru.

OK? If you have more questions, please let me know.

How to replace drive/serpentine belt for '97 buick le sabre 3.8? do u have to remove engine mount/bracket or just engine mount?

You don't have to remove the mount. Go thru the wheel well on the passenger side and remove the motor mount bolt just right of the crank pulley. Then remove the stud that the nut was on. Then remove the sleeve that the stud goes thru. Then you can change the belt.

Take off the motor mount?

No. You have to remove one bolt and stud. Go thru the wheel well and look to the right of the crank pulley. You will see an 18 mm nut. Remove the nut, then remove the stud with an inverted torx bit if it doesn't come out with the nut. Then remove the spacer that the stud went thru, and then the belt will come off.

There is no diagram for replacing my broken serpentine belt on my 1996 regal 3800

On the bracket that attaches the motor mount to engine, the lowest nut and stud must be removed (can reach by removing wheel and from bottom). Then remove spacer (that goes around stud), install belt then reinstall spacer, stud and nut.

Must replace serpentine belt on 99 Buick Lasabre

This is a 99 lesabre? You don't have to remove the mount. Look in through the wheel well and remove the nut on the mount that is between the crank pulley and the a/c compressor. After you remove the nut, remove the stud with an inverted torx bit. When you remove the stud, the spacer between the mount and the block will come out and then you can change the belt.

Can not get the serpentine belt around the motor mount

You need to remove the mount, no other way to get the belt on, Labor time is over 1 hour for someone that has done them before.
