2001 Ford Escape shifter is stuck in neutral and won't move at all. Checked and have plenty of fluid.
Happened to me. There's a cheap plastic retaining clip which holds some kind of electrical cable to the mechanical assembly. THis clip broke on me trying to move the shifter into drive one day. THe shifter was actually able to be placed into park again but the indicator read, "D". I had to remove all the plastic around the steering wheel so that I could view underneath it. Once I located the assembly and discovered the broken plastic retainer I re-connected the cable to it's connector and secured it in place with multiple rubber "o-rings". I'm sorry that I don't remeber the sizes. It's been about a year and 1/2 and the shifter works better than before. Took about one and a half hours to fix after trying different sizes of "o-rings" that I had handy. I'm sure a cotter pin would work as well.
I had the same thing happen the cable from the shifter to the transmission came undone. The guy that towed me home reached down where the cable connect to the shift lever on the transmission and shifted it all the way down which would be park! I'll have to figure out a fix on my own no parts sold at Adavance or other auto parts stores I think I might be able to get something from the salavage yard. Hope this helps!

I was pulling into a parking spot today and attempted to put the car in park. It was stuck in reverse. I had to get the car towed. Its a 2003 escape with less than 50000 miles. Any ideas?
