From your description it sounds like the starter motor is going out, either bad brushes or the commutator thats not allowing full current flow.

We are building a 454, every time we finally get the engine to turn over the brand new starter breaks, we have been through 3 new starters now. What could be wrong?

Turn the engine by hand from the front main pulley. Something is binding in the engine, maybe you will hear it.

My 1990 chrysler new yorker clicks when i try to start. A little later i try again & starts right up & runs fine. Within a couple days it wont start, only clicks once...repeat

Probably the starter solenoid. Over time the contact points, or plates, inside the solenoid get pitted or worn down. The starter will have to be removed to separate the starter motor and solenoid. Or just get a used starter and try it.

My 1988 Jeep won't start when I crank over the engine. It will turn the motor over a few times then I lose battery power. With a cold start it sometimes will start on first attempt but it has gott

it sounds like the starter is bad but first run a pair of jumper cables from the battery to the starter and the other jumper on the ground side just to make sure you don't have a bad cable larger parts stores can test it off the car if you bring it to them

bench check the starter to see if its engaging properly, if it is,, then I'd be checking the flywheel teeth, and to be sure its not bent instead,, something is binding it up and causing the starters to burn up

We are having problems with our starter and a friend of ours a couple of weeks ago got underneath the car and hammered the starter and it worked for a couple of days. We can't seem to remember where it is...

when you get to that point that you have to hit at the starter will be a time when not even that is going to work you need a new stater. ok for know it looks like this and is underneath on transmission side and it looks something like this.

2002 Dodge Neon wont start when warmed up

The starter is most likely bad and needs to be replaced, either the solenoid or motor are binding when it heats up and the parts expand,I can't pinpoint the exact cause because you haven't indicated if you hear the solenoid click wwhen you try to start it warm.I realize the starter has been replaced, but with a remanufactured unit they are not tested when they are warm and a bad unit will pass and be rebuilt.
