Question about 1987 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

My VW is making 'clunking' nosies.

I have a 1997 Jetta with 142,000Km. Often when I drive from more than 5 mins, the car starts to make 'clunging' nosies and does not excellerating properly. I have not changed the timing belt and I'm wondering if that's the problem?

I also think there is a leak under the drivers side portion of the car. It does not look like oil or gas.

Have timing belt and timing belt tensioner replace.check coolant level .power steering fluid .and tranny fluid to see whick one real low. the one you find very low that the leak. the noise you describe . you could have worn cv joints and the timing belt tensioner will make a noise if wore out.

You probably have some corrosion on your battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and connected good and tight.

it could be your transmission.Try looking for a gasket seal between engine and trans or around the trans. look for where the leak is coming from.
