Need to hook up the altenator. thick wire from altenator is loose and i don't know where it connects to.

I need to connect a wire from my altenator some where but i don't know where it goes. I changed the starter and in the process took off a thick wire that runs to the altenator and consequently my battery won't stay charged

It sounds like you have answered your own question here...? the thick wire from the alternator connecting to the starter terminal feeds electricity back to the battery though the starter cable when you are running... if you have a manual you can see for yourself in the wiring charts. Hope this helps...

1999 Sable wagon - the dash and rear lights don't work. Brake lights and headlights are fine. Any ideas?

This can happen when the wires to the lights come loose. If you know someone who can get in the back and check the wiring, and can hook them back up, that's probably all it is. Sometimes items in the trunk, or the back of an SUV, or just hard road bumps can shake the connections loose.

My battery light lit up on dash of my 2008. Mitsh. lancer gls cvt....what does that mean?

Altenator is not charging the system. It could be the altenator, regulator (built into the altenator), A loose wire (bad connection). There is a plug on the altenator that signals this light when a problem occurs. start the car and wiggle it or unplug it and plug it back in, this will tell you if you have a bad connection. To check the altenator you need a voltage tester.

I have a 99 Pontiac grand am gt that has a good alternator that isn't charging the battery. The wires are connected correctly and the connections are clean and the battery terminals are clean as well....

Have you taken the battery to autozone or someplace and had the battery tested? I would find if you know the alternator is good it must be the battery itself. Might want to try that if you havent already. Good Luck Bro~

Battery light comes on and off. got a new alternator and battery, checked all fuses. any ideas?

On some/most cars now days the regulator is in the computer. this could be the problem. or as simple as a loose wire. check the wires going to the altenator for corrosion. then check the wires going to the computer for the same, to iclude pushed out pins. also I han=ve found that the sockets in the pigtails get a little large making for a loose connection. If they look bigger that the rest, take a needle and pry them closer together. If you have a cracked connection in the computer it is as best hard to find, takes a magnifing glass to spot and you have to know what your looking for.

If battery is new, and altenator test good which would mean your battery is getting charged, then check the igntion wire that goes to the solenoid. They can get loose, broken, or dirty connections.
Check your battery cable connections on battery and on starter and ground to make sure they are very clean as well as tight.

Altenator Not working Well

were talking about the big fat wire right? runs to the starter where the positive battery cable connects. Be sure the connections are clean and shiny bright on that cable and the battery connections and the starter connections. Make sure where the alternator bolts to the engine theres no corrosion and the bolts themselves are clean too, thats the ground for the alternator. Check the ground cable on the battery where it bolts to the body and or the engine too.

Fan on alternator wont spin

I think you should check your connections on the back of the altenator, something is wired incorrectly, if necessary hook up one wire at a time and see what you get. There should be only one large red wire on the BATT connection, and the rest should be in a molded clip that plugs into the altenator, check and ensure that they have a good connection when you hook them up.

Connecting Mazda stereo

Check to make sure all the wiring is tight. That sounds like the connections are loose and loosing contact.
