Question about 1990 Plymouth Voyager

1991 Plymouth Voyager cuts out after warmed up?

I have a 1991 voyager mini van with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine that has developed a miss, or for better use of words a "pop". The van runs great for the first 20 -25 minutes, but then will start popping/ cutting out, under power. The "pop" almost sounds like a back fire through the carburater or somewhere in the exhaust system, but only after the van has warmed up? If you put it in park again, it seems to run fine. It really does it alot on take off or inclines where you require more acceleration or gas. Where do start to find the problem?? Thank you for any help in advance!

csmock, thanks for the suggestion. I did put new plugs and wires on it about a year ago. Could it be anything else or would you try some new wires?

Try a good tune up. Sounds like plug wires.

If you bought wires a year ago maybe they are under warranty and the parts store will give you another set for free. Also It could be a cap or rotor or a coil. One thing you could try is driving it with the vac line off the EGR valve.

1994 plymouth voyager, not shifting into drive

Not shifting? or is the tranny dust? Is this mechanical (in the linkage) or does the transmission "spin" when put into Drive?

The Voyager is infamous for it's bad transmissions.. Craigslist is "littered" with Caravans and Voyagers that need transmissions.. The replacement can cost as much as $2600.. and finding a used one is not always easy.. the cheapest and best way to replace it is get a rebuilt one.. and do it yourself.. it is time consuming yet fairly simple on the 3.0 engine. The hardest part is seperating the struts.. this might be a two man job.. BTW.. don't let the torque converter fall out of the transmission.. get a book if you attempt this repair at home.. jack he van up as high as you can.. the engine is easily supported with a couple of 2x4 cut to fit..

I have replaced a transmission on 1995 Caravan..

I have the same problem as jbdnmos

I still don't know what engine is in this van It can be a 2.4 (4 cylinder ) , a 3.0 ( 6 cylinder ) , and a 3.3 ( different maker 6 cylinder ) the engine trans mission systems are made by different manufactures and without this information it's like telling me car is the blue one. you know the problems that happen to the blue ones. Sounds like the exhaust is stopped up

Will a 94 Dodge Caravan transmission fit in a 96 Plymouth Voyager

80 percent of the time the transmission problem is electrical. Pull the transmission dip stick and check the condition of the transmission fluid. If it's not burn and the transmission runs with out slipping but does not shift properly. Good chances are that it may be the Transmission control module (TCM) which is on the passenger side fender close to the headlight. Check the condition of the wire harness to the TCM, look for corrosion and try disconnection the TCM and see if there is any changes to the way the transmission performs. As for the transmission fitting, as long as the engine size are the same. the 3 liter and 3.3 liter use different transmission. Good luck and hope this helps.

1996 plymouth voyager mini van engine stays on, 500.00 complete tune has been done engine light went off but came back on less then a mile from Pep Boys.

A tune up in most cases has nothinf to do with a check engine light, unless the engine is missing, go to Autozone or Kragen auto and ask to have the OBD system checked for trouble codes, then post them here and we will look at them, the test by the way is free.
