Question about 1995 Pontiac Sunfire
I have a 1995 z24 cavalier with the 2.3 quad 4.the car has been dieing on me while i am driveing down the road.i can crank and crank on itbut it will not start until it has sit for at least 20 minutes.it will start right up and run like a charm for a couple of days and it will do it again.i have put a new fuel pump on it,ignition module,cleaned the plugs,checked the ignition wires,everything i can think of.the coils are about 6 years old,so i dont think they are the problem.the car does not miss or carry on while i am driveing it.and no check engine light.a code scanner will not communicate with my car for some reason,so no luck there.when it quits it quits,no warning,like i just turned the key off.anybody have any theorys on this one?
Have someone else see if their scanner will communicate, if not, this is a sure sign that the ECM has gone bad and will cause intermittent stalling. Normally I would recommend changing the crank sensor for this problem and it still may be the cause if you want to try it first, but it sure sounds like a bad ECM.
