MIGHT BE A RELAY ! LOCATED UNDER HOOD, YOU SHOULD SEE RELAY BOX NEXT TO BATTERY. MAKE SURE BATTERY TERMINALS ARE CLEANED, PUT SOME VASOLINE ON TERMINALS, RECONNECT, TIGHTEN. CHECK ALL GROUND WIRES. ARELAY BOX MAY ALSO BE LOCATED NEXT TO POWER STEERING . COULD HAVE A FAULTY SOLONOID@ STARTER, IGNITION SWITCH COULD ALSO BE FAULTY, ITS NEVER EASY TO PINPOINT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, PROCESS OF ALIMINATION, CHECK ALL STARTING CIRCUIT SYSTEMS, IS YOUR SHIFT LEVER ALL THE WAY IN PARK ? DOES ENGINE CRANK ? OR DEAD, NO POWER ? ARE YOU GETTING SPARK ? HOW ABOUT FUEL ? DID YOU REPLACE BOTH THE AIR &FUEL FILTERS ? THE STARTER / SOLONOID IS WHAT CRANKS THE ENGINE, I THINK YOUR PROBLEM IS THERE ! REPLACE RELAY TO STARTING SYSTEM, ARE YOUR SPARK PLUG WIRES NEW ! THEY WILL SHORT OUT ANY SPARK IF OLD, DIRTY, I SUGGEST A TUNEUP, NEW FILTERS, AND REPLACE STARTER/SOLONOID !!!!!!

Will not start,,no click, nothing...how to trouble shoot,,or how to replace the starter motor..

follow these, let someone turns the ignition key to start position, you connect one wire to small wire on solonoid that is on top of a starter it looks like a round black can sardines, now put a light bulb and the one wire on the light bulb connects to that solonoid wire, other wire on the light bulb on the body ground or ground negative. ..once the ignition key is on start position the light bulb will light up.. if not, that wire is the problem or check first the fuse.. Replace the starter if the light bulb is working.

Car won't start when key is turned on but can be push started. Battery is new,

See the small wire on the solonoid top of the starter body.. it might be disconnected.. if it is connected see the fuse. other option, If you have a ligth bulb connect one wire to small wire on solonoid and body ground second wire of your ligth bulb. spin the ignition key to start position if the light bulb does not light there is a cut wire from the ignition key to solonoid.

Battery seems fine good lights on dash when turned on but will not turn engine over it won`t even try

There are several possibilities for you to investigate. When the key is in the start position do you should hear a click from the starter solonoid? If so then you know that power is getting to the starter solonoid which eliminates a bad ignition switch. In that case you may have a bad starter. If you hear no click then you must get a test light and use it to see if power is getting to the starter solonoid. Ground the light and place the tip on the energizer wire to the solonoid. When an assistant turns the key to the start position the test light should light. This tells you power is where it should be and the solonoid is not working. If there is no power there then you must suspect a bad ignition switch or a bad wire in between the switch and the starter. Hope this helps.

How to remove a starter on a 86 jaguar xj6 vanden plas starter does not function

The starter motor is located on the passenger side ( left ) side of the motor. it is held onto the motor with two bolts. Before starting the removal process you must disconnect the battery by removing the ground lead. Under the car disconnect the battery feed wires on the solonoid mounted on the starter. Also disconnect the white with red tracer wire on the solonoid. This is the wire that comes from the starter relay on the firewall. Remove the upper bolt first. You can get at it from the top of the engine bay and then remove the bottom bolt. This starter is heavy. The starters on the later cars were a lot lighter. The starter will clear the engine. Be sure to test the new starter before you install it. Installation is reverse of the removal.

Put in a new starter and all you get is a clicking sound and wont start why wont it start what did i do wrong

Providing the battery is fully charged, and the cables are tight and clean, you may have the wires on wrong. They may be grounding against the block, or on backwards. If that all checks out, maybe you got a dud starter.
