92 325is non vanos to vanos conversion?

Hello i have a 1992 325is and have 2 out of 6 spark plugs soaked in oil. was told that my oil stem seals were going bad and need to be replaced. found out would be cheaper to get a used engine than have a rebuild. so i found a nice engine out of a 1995 325is. problem i have as of now is that it is vanos and mine is originally not. there were a lot of upgrades to my car when i bought it and i was told that the existing engine i have is a 95. how do i know what engine i currently have and what would i need from donor car to make vanos work in the case that mine isnt? thank you

You cannot retro fit a late engine with vanos to an early model that uses the non vanos set up .There simply is too much else that needs to be changed as well. You best bet is hang in there and find the correct type of engine for your car.

2007 ford 4.0 v6 why are all my spark plugdls on passenger side oil soaked but drivers side is fine doesn't smoke did compression test all good not a blown intake gasket had it checked anyone know?

Hi Josh:
I'd put fresh plugs in it and drive it for a week, then check the plugs.
Sometimes you will get high compression readings that are not valid because the rings are soaked in oil so they think they are sealed when they are not.
With the engine off, you could try removing the oil filler cap when the engine is hot, then restart it. A little vapour is OK, a lot indicates bad valve guides, head gasket,or ring blowby.
Also, try checking inside the exhaust tailpipe. If it is oily sooty it is also an indication of possible ring problems.
Review the maintenance history. How many miles on the engine? Could be the engine is getting tired.

Oil soaked plug electrode and loud lifter tick

Oil fouled spark plug is caused by excessive oil entering the combustion chamber through worn rings and pistons, excessive clearance between valve guides and stems, or worn or loose bearings. Correct oil problem and replace plugs.

Adjust valves to correct tick and inspect stems at the same time.

Hope this helps Mike

Fouled spark plugs

Usually one of 2 causes. Most common is a bad valve stem oil seal allowing the oil past the valve stem when the engine is shut off.Second is a broken or bad oil ring on that piston. Be blessed.

Replacing the valve cover gasket, where do the "O" rings go? I didn't find any when I took it apart.

The four round rubber seals are for the spark plug holes. They prevent oil under the valve cover from getting out around the spark plugs. If you pull a plug and find that it is particularly oil soaked (not the part that goes into the head, but the part that you put the plug wrench on to remove it), that will tell you that those seals are leaking.
Hope this answers your question, and is helpful.

Oil inside cylinders

oil inside the cylinders happens two ways...bad or worn piston rings or bad valve seals.  If you do a compression test this will tell you what the problem is.  when you remove your oil filler cap with the motor running is there a lot of pressure coming from inside the engine?  If there is, as I'm suspecting you are sadly suffering from a worn out engine.
