Question about 1998 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

1998 chevrolet 1500 pops the back-up fuse as soon as I put in reverse. I disconnect the harness by the tailgate, so the problem in not in the back. could it be the back up switch? also traced the wire to the switch.

You may have to go over the whole body harness to look for a short, not just the wiring to the backup lights. check any questionable fusable links, too. if your not sure about the backup switch itself, go ahead and test it.

As soon as you put a fuse in wiper circuit it blows is there a module that runs these to or is it just switch and motor

Fuses are intended to protect the wiring in a circuit. If it blows there is an overload or a short circuit. It could be a faulty wiper motor, a faulty switch or a worn through wire that is grounded. try disconnecting the motor first to see if the fuse still blows. Next inspect the wiring harness as I feel a switch is an unlikely cause. Check around the fuse box as well as sometimes fuses over heat and terminals touch.

Wiper fuse blows as soon as you insert one sure the fuse is the right ampage. second...if the ampage is correct, and it still blows, do the following. Disconnect the ground-side of your battery. Attached test lamp to ground-side of battery. Take probe end of test lamp and touch anypart of the motor body frame. If the test lamp (DOES NOT LIGHT UP), you have an electrical short. Recommend OBD (On-board Diagnostic) analysis test.

1998 Chevy S10 pickup backup lights don't work

Yes it screws in on right side of tramission and you will need a 7/8 inch deep socket to remove it. You may be able to clean the old one once it is removed. There is a little ball thatgets dirty and may you can get by with cleaning it. Good Luck. Ed

disconnect main inlet and vent hoses. Disconnect the three hoses that goes into the pump at the top. Disconnect wiring harness. Put jack under tank and remove the two straps holding tank in. Once on the ground, blow off all the dust that's around the top. This truck should either be a C style ring or a full ring with tabs. If it's a C style, pull ends together and remove ring. If it's a tab style, grab hammer and screwdriver. Hit each tab to turn the ring counter clockwise. Keep doing this untill it pops off. Remove pump and remeber how it comes out. Put new o ring on new pump and lube ring up with some kind of lubericant. A little oil, tranni fluid, even pertrelum jelly. Pump pump back in, when you push down on it to set it into place, make sure you push it in straight. Not doing this will damage oring and possible fuel leakeage when it's filled. While pressing pump down put old c ring or tab ring back on and get it started. Lock the ring into place and install. Doing everyting in reverse order of what you did to remove.

1998 chevy truck tail light an panel light popin fuse,s i checked all wiring in rear no damage to wiring bought an change 3 way bulb holder. still same prob, don,t no were to go next Keith

Somtimes the bulbs get a dead short in them even though they look OK. Install new bulbs or remove all bulbs on this circuit and reinstall one at a time to see if fuse pops. I had this problem with signal lights on 95 chevy 1500 and turned out the back up bulbs were on the same circuit. Bad back up bulb so once truck was in reverse it blew the fuse and then the signals did not work. Cheap enough to be worth a shot.
