SOURCE: how to replace inside door handle on passenger on 1998 chevy silv

Remove screw from inside door grab handle. Remove door panel by carefully prying out plastic clips. Drill or chisel off pop rivets holding the handle on. Pull handle out far enough to disconnect linkage and remove handle. Install new handle and secure to metal panel with new pop rivets or sheet metal screws. It may be easier to reconnect linkages by removing the metal panel also.

How do yoiu get the door hindges off of a 89 chevy 1500

To get the door off you have to take out the door pins. The top pin goes in upwards and the bottom pin downward. Make sure you put a jack under the door frame to ease pressure on the pins. Tap pins lightly to remove them. Just like a house door. You will need new bushings. If you find that the bushings are not fitting snug to the hinge, loose, you may need to drill the hole out a bit bigger, and use an over sized pin and bushing to replace it. Good luck, I hope this helps, please rate this solution

How to replace door hinge pins?

Have an assistant to aid you, or pad the ears of jackstands with rags to help aid supporting the door. You will need to take the weight off the door hinges to drive the pins and bushing out. Also, take $12 to NAPA - I forget the part number, but there is a door spring compressing hand tool that will make the job easier and SAFER. Remove the spring with the tool, covering over the spring and tool head with a rag to protect yourself in the event of the spring popping up and back at you - it *can* happen.

With the spring removed and door supported, drive ONE pin out. Do same with the brass bushings. Press the bushings in with a simple jig made of washers and a long bolt w/matching nut - do not tap them in with a hammer. Then, repeat same on other pin. When both pins and sets of bushings have been replaced, use compression tool to reload the spring into the retainer inside the door frame hinge area.

Rank amateur may be able to complete one door in half an hour by himself, easy fix!

I am trying to replace the door pins on a 1999 chevy silverado Is there an easy way to do this they are being quite troublesome

I prefer to keep my money in my pocket to spend on fun stuff so when i did mine i used a floor jack and a 2x4 between them so the jack didnt scrap the door. using a chisel i pounded the pins out used channel locks to press the bushings out. now to press them in i used channel locks and put a semi deep socket on the side where the bushing would come through the hinge so i can use the pliers to press it in and it would go into the socket rather than being crushed by lower jaw of pliers

Door pin changing

Most I've changed have just been able to be driven up from the bottom. Support the door with a floor jack to take tension off of it and be careful not to let worn grooved spots prevent the pin from moving upwards. Most good kits I've seen also come with bronze replacement bushings...worth the couple of dollars extra.
