Time for a new pump, there should enought pressure to shoot a stream across a good size shop. Pumps can sound like there pumping but there not. If pump was good you would not be able to hold your finger over the line.

Is it possible to check fuel pressure without a fuel pressure gauge? if so how do i do it?

To find out if the pump is working, disconnect the fuel line to the fuel rail (or carburetor) and turn on the pump (move the ignition key to on). If fuel comes out, the pump is working.
If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge and want to know what the pressure is, bring your car to someone who does have a fuel pressure gauge (unless you have a calibrated fingertip and can tell the pressure by holding your finger over the end of the fuel line).

Bad fuel pump symptoms

I assume that you have fuel injection. Some cars allow you to put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. If it takes you three times to start your car and you have over 100 thousand miles then you can pretty much say your pump is shot. Many times about 500 miles after a fuel filter change the pump will go out. A poor mans way would be to disconnect the fuel line and hold a finger over the line to see how much pressure is there. This is very dangerous because you could wind up with gas in your eyes or the car on fire. Fuel pressure requirements vary from car to car. Example, the Jeep Cherokee uses pretty high pressure and will not run unless the pressure is high.

92 lumina not starting

Possibly a fuel regulator or injectors? it seems that there is insufficient fuel going into the combustion chamber. Take the fuel line off at the fuel rail and stick your finger over the hose, now get a friend to initiate the fuel pump by turning the key to on for a split second, if you cant stop fuel from ******* out from where you have your finger you know that the pressure is ok up to the fuel rail, put the fuel line back on then move onto your pressure regulator etc.

I replaced gas tank, fuel line, fuel pump, carburetor, and still no gas to Carburetor.

A mechanical fuel pump works off a lobe on the cam, usually. I have seen these cams wear down to the point that the fuel pump does not operate correctly. A quick test is to; remove the fuel lines from the pump, plug the oulet side of the pump with your finger, install a vacumm gauge on the inlet side and crank the engine. The gauge should show good vacumm and you should feel pressure against your finger. If none of these exist then you should replace the camshaft.

My altima turns over but doesn't start. It gets fuel pressure (though it seems like weak pressure to me, I can stop it with my finger over the line) I put a spare plug I had lying around on the wire,...

the fuel pressure should be around the 50 psi mark mso it could be a bad pressure regulator , blockd fuel filter , EVAP venting problem or failing fuel pump

Replaced the fuel pump fuel filter , no start in my 95 S10 Blazer. add gas will run, untill the gas stops pouring in by hand . new part on top of the throtle body as well, i think it controls th O2 and...

1. Does the pump actually run (key on engine off) pump should run for 2 seconds and go off and can be heard if you listen at the filler neck with the gas cap removed)
pump not running - Check relay (replace if bad) check wiring/fusese

Pump runs... go on to #2...

2. check the gas guage. is the gauge reading in the normal area it would read in or is it way way off like WAY above full or way below empty? This is a sign the electrical connection at the pump is plugged in backwards and the pump is spinning the wrong way and not picking up the fuel... (This is easy to get plugged in backwards inside the tank when installing the new pump)

3. Check for feed, return and vent lines being installed wrong where they attach to the tank... they can easily be hooked up wrong and fuel is either pumped up in to the return line or pumped in to the fuel tank vent line..

4. check for kinked or crushed fuel lines from tank to engine.

5. check fuel pressure regulator to be sure its not stuck open.

Need directions on replacing 2000 dodge durange 4.7 ltr fuel pump

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO FIRST IS JACK THE TRUCK UP AS HIGH AS SAFELY POSSIBLE.. BE SURE TO USE JACK STANDS THAT WAY THE TRUCK DOENT FALL OVER.. ONCE UP IN THE AIR HE WILL NEED TO TAKE THE GAS TANK OUT OF THE TRUCK.. THERE ARE TWO STRIPS HOLDING THE TANK INTO PLACE..THEN WHEN HE GETS THE TANK ON THE GROUND, REMOVE ALL THE FUEL LINES.(THERE ARE CLIPS ON THE PLASTIC LINES BE EASY) THEN WHEN HE GETS THE LINES LOOSE, THERE IS A METAL RING ON THE TOP ON THE FUEL TANK..HE CAN USE A SCREW DRIVER TO GET THE RING OFF( HE WILL SEE HOW TO TAKE IT OFF WHEN HE LOOKS AT IT) WHEN THE RING IS OFF PULL THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY OUT OF THE TANK AND REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP (THE WHOLE FUEL PUMP WILL JUST NEED PULLED OUT, NO SCREWS) ..JUST REPEAT THESE STEPS BACKWARDS TO REINSTALL .. THIS SHOULD SOLVE YOUR $700 PROBLEM..GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR USING FIXYA.COM...KEITH..
