2002 SAAB is releasing white smoke out of tail pipe and stalling

White smoke out the exhaust is a sign of either water in the fuel or coolant being burned with the fuel. Observe if you have any coolant consumption and if not, wait until your tank to empt and filled up with new fresh good quality gasoline and you will be allright. If you have a coolant consumption you will need a tool to pressure test the coolant system and find where is leaking. You can purchase it at Harborfreight tools. Could be head gasket, Throtllebody gasket, intake gasket and others... Good luck.

Is there any easy way to tell if head gasket is blown on 99 saab 9-3 2.0 turbo? Or an easy way to do a compression check?

Yes you use an exhaust gas analyzer to check for hydrocarbons in coolant recovery tank or radiator.

I had white smoke from the tail pipeand getting hot ... I had the heads done , gasket valve . and resurfising. when I got the saab back ,I drove it about 49 miles started driving slugish , bufs of black...

Sounds to me like they did a bad head job. No pun intended. lol, White smoke indicates moisture in exhaust but black smoke indicates a oil leak. I would take it back and have them check the job they did. If the car is over heating then the head gaskets are pretty much blown.

I had a coolant loss problem, we replaced the head gasket, had the head pressure tested, put everything together and we still have a coolant loss, could it be the turbo which is water and oil cooled? or...

dear friend- your turbo is not oil coold, but if you put a pressure tester on pump it ti 15psi and then let it stand for a while look for external leaks if nothing see if the pressure has dropped,if no external leaks were found and the pressure has dropped,it must be internal,if the pressure did not drop then i think the water cap is faulty.

1993 saab turbo CSE. limphome mode, possible head gasket leak

Things can only get get worse and that means more expense. Like mine, better to do the head gasket asap while it's not too expensive or at least get the head bolt torque settings checked after the rebuild as they may need tweeking.

I have a 2004 Saab 93 turbo. It leaks oil from the oil filter cap. I replaced the gasket when I changed the oil and oil filter, but it still leaks. What should I do? There are so many people out there with...

have the crankcase pressure tested.the turbo is intercooled.if there is a cooler leak,it could be pressurising the crankcase causing a leak.make sur the cap is torqued to spec.the other solution is to use rtv will still come off when needed.

Saab 9-5 blowing white smoke from exhaust

One way to check for a blown head gasket, is to simply smell the coolant reservoir. Pop the cap, and see if it smells like raw gas. Every headgasket, I've diagnosed has had this smell, even if the oil is not contaminated. Another way is to hook up a coolant pressure tester, and run the vehicle for 15-20 mins or so. If the head gasket is blown, the pressure will exceed 15 psi. sometimes as high as 25 psi. If there is oil in the coolant overflow tank, the head is cracked, about 90% of the time.
I'm working on a 03 Saab 95 2.3l t. This vehicle smokes on initial start up, then the smoke disapates, and the vehicle is fine. Another mechanic diagnosed it as bad valve seals. I disconnected the pcv system, and the vehicle no longer smokes. If the valve seals have gone bad, the vehicle will smoke on acceleration. Also if the turbo seals are leaking it will smoke more heavily on acceleration.

White smoke from exhaust

White smoke from exhaust = water into the cylinders, when this happens it usually means head gasket gone or starting to go.
Check the water level, and take the car to the garage for a check up , if it is the head gasket, as I think, you risk to blow the engine at any time.
