    Sorry 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

  • jkroadhawg Apr 13, 2009

I have a 1990 olds cutlass supreme with a 3.1 V6 engine and mine was doing the same thing but now has gotten to the point of idling fine but dies when the fuel is depressed at all. I can't even get it out of the driveway. I have changed the Idle Air flow sensor, the MAP sensor, the Throttle body on the injection system, and the fuel filter. I'm about at my wits end with this thing at the moment. If anyone can Help us with this problem i'd appreciate it. Thank You all.

MY 93 OLDS, DOES THIS SAME THING. WE EVEN TOOK IT TO 2 DIFFERENT AUTO MECHANICS AND THE COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. THE FUEL FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED AND THE FUEL PUMP IS FINE. SOMEONE EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANNY SLIPPING. NO, IT STARTS UP AND RUNS LIKE NEW. AS SOON AS IT'S WARMED UP AND YOUR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT CUTS OUT. IT STARTS TO JUMP AND IF YOU DON'T BABY IT, IT STALLS. THE FUNNY THING IS IT GOES JUST FINE IN REVERSE. LATELY PEOPLE HAVE SAID TO REPLC THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR. ONE OTHER PROBLEM THOUGH IS IT HAS AN ALL DIGITAL DASH. THE DASH LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF. SOMETIMES THEY STAY ON FOR A WHILE, AND THEN ALL THE SUDDEN TURN OFF. MATBE IT'S THE COMPUTER. THE WHOLE CAR RUN'S ON A COMPUTER AND THAT IS POSSIBLY CAUSING THE WHOLE CAR TO SHORT OUT AND CUT OUT LIKE IT DOES. WE REPLC THE MODUAL 2 TIMES NOW. I JUST HATE TO LET A BEAUTIFUL CAR GO.

I have a 1992 Cutlass Supreme SL. I had the same problem. My car was idling up and down. When the accelerator is pressed, then the car dies. I thought it was the fuel pump or fuel filter, but I took it to the shop. They put the car on a diagnostic machine. My fuel pressure regulator was leaking. They fixed the problem. Runs good. Not doggy like all those days of fixing the heater hose, radiator hose, thermostat, ignition control module, water pump,etc............waremil

It would have been helpful if you stated the year of the car but it sounds to me like it is the fuel filter or the fuel pump

I have a 2004 Honda Shadow 600VLX. Out for a ride with some friends yesterday. Filled up, ran it for about 60 miles and on the way home, I completely lost power doing about 50-60mph.

Hopefully I am wrong but several cars worked on that had this problem timing belt broke or chain or belt slipped. U stated it acts like it want to start if it cranks not a broken belt.
Could also be a bad camshaft or crankshaft sensor

Car started to loose power slowing down battery light came on and car eventually stopped. it will not start but tries to turn over

sounds like the alternator has quit charging,,try a jump start and check voltage at the battery after it starts (cables off)
(If it dies after the cables are unhooked ,the alt. is bad.)

What's your problem?Recently I left the key on or the light on or both in my 2001 suburban.. So i jumped started it no problem. next day while taking my son to school about 1 mile on the way back

How old is the battery? Have it load tested at a car parts store. It sounds like an old or bad battery, Do you remember where it was bought? Some new batteries fail right away, take it back they will replace it.

When my 1972 chevrolet 350 4 barrel is warmed up it acts like its not getting gas and jerks and eventually dies. if i wait a few minutes it will start up but after slight acceleration it starts it aga

Good chance it is not getting fuel, or enough fuel.
When the rig is cold, the choke is closed. As it warms up, the choke opens.
If the metering jets inside the carb are dirty, they may not be letting enough fuel into the barrels. You could also have a vac leak that is masked by the choke until the engine warms up.

I'm about to purchase a 1998 Plymouth Breeze from a friend and they say the car stops on occassion they told me to purchase a new alternator is this going to fix it or is there new problems ahead?

"Car stops on occasion" Then what happens? Does it need a jump to start back up or just let it sit and it starts? If the alternator is bad the battery then takes over running the vehicle. The battery is only made to crank the motor and when the car starts the alternator takes over and charges the battery back up. If the battery is running the car it will eventually run out of power and the car will die. If the car dies because of a bad alternator it will not start unless jumped or new battery put in. I really don't think alternator is the cause of that problem. I'd say don't do it unless you can pinpoint problem.

At the back of the engine in between the trans. and engine is a crank sensor. It's on the pass. side of the block. Follow the crank sensor wiring that runs under the engine to see if the harness is broken. If it's in good shape then replace the crank sensor.
