Call a Ford dealership and give them the VIN of your car and they will let you know if there is a recall on it. the only thing you do to replace it is you take the belt off and remove the line from the pump and take it off but once you put the new pump on and fill with powersteering fluid turn the wheel back and forth left to right to get the air out of the system

Does power steering pump have check valve, the hose from pump to coolant keeps breaking

Some of the SUVs/Pickups did have pressure relief valves, yes.
2002-2003 Envoys have a history of substandard steering pump quality, often with broken shafts involved. Recommend both pump and hoses be replaced. Some years had a formal recall of these components for power steering hose leakage/breakage as well. The leaks most often occur when braking while the wheel is turned all the way to one direction.

I have a 2003 Ford Escape that is leaking power steering fluid. I replaced the power steering pump and hoses but it is still leaking. It only leaks when the Escape is turned off.

It might be the rack and pinion kit (seals)

I had this problem 2 months ago... replaced the powersteering pump 3 times until I convinced the mechanics to look at the rack and pinion. there they found the leak, especially when I turned the wheel.. They first kept telling me there was air in the lines and it would go away. but that never happened.

2003 Ford Escape leaking red fluid

Sounds like you need a new power steering hose. To verify this, I would dry up any wet areas on the hose and pump with a towel, get a flashlight and start the vehicle and try to determine the exact site of the leak which is usually at the ends of the hoses. Good luck!

Are these known for this.(steering leaks) 02 escapes.

The rack and pinion power steering is known for leaking. It is inherent in the system as long as it doesn't leak by the bucket, most leak a few drops and it's no big deal. If it leaks a lot, there are plenty of power steering leak stops on the market. You didn't say if it leaks at the pump or the rack and pinion, but both have seals you can replace if needed.

How to replace power steering pump on 2002 ford escape

Take a picture of it before you take it apart so you know where everything goes.
1.Take belt off
2. Unbolt any bracket that the power steering pump is bolted too.( only if you have to unbolt a bracket)
3. Disconnect lines from steering pump
4. After replacing power steering pump fill with Auto. trans fluid.
5. After filling start car and turn wheel left and right a few times this will get the air out of the system and recheck fluid level.

Fuel pump.

I have a 2000 ford focus and there was a recall for a defective fuel pump. THe dealership replaced it for free. You should check Ford recalls for this problem.
