OD on Auto gearbox goes into neutral when cold

When the gearbox is cold OD will go in, but after a about 200yards it goes into neutral, if I ease off the accelarator it will re-engage, but will do the same again.

when the gearbox is hot generally the OD is no problem and it performs faultlessly. The gearbox out of OD performs normally.

The car is a Mitsubishi Galant VR V6 2000cc 1997 model.

I will give this solution a try, however the fluid was changed by Mitsubishi about 5000 miles ago, but when this problem started I found they had under filled the gearbox, below minimum, perhaps this affected oil quality but it looks clean as new. This problem only effects the Overdrive function.

You need to have your transmission serviced. The fluid has gotten so thick in there that it builds up too much pressure and your transmission will either kick it out of gear or blow up. I'm glad it actually still works. Once the oil warms up it thins right out and it works no prob. Just service your tranny, and you'll be fine.

If it started at the last service, they probably didn't put the filter in right. Therefore there is a bad seal for the fluid to travel through, and it keeps kicking it out of gear.

If the transmission is bad, consider converting to stick shift. If it's already a stickshift, check the fluid level and condition of fluid

Auto gearbox

if it has a dip stick under the bonnet you need to have the engine running with the box in neutral then dip the oil
if the engine is warm then it should read around the top mark, if the engine us cold then it should rear around the lower mark
if there is no dip stick then there is no way of checking the level and you will need to drain the box and re fill with the correct ammount through the gearbox breather on the top

1997 saab convertible check gearbox light comes on and off

Most common fault is the gearbox position sensor. This is like a neutral safety switch located on the top of the transmission where the shift cable looks up.

I can not get the Auto shift lever out of park

I initially tried to override the Brake / Transmission switch by disconnecting the battery but that did not work. I solved the problem by disconnecting the wiring from the actual gearbox, and manually moving the linkage at the gearbox. After doing that everything was re-connected and now works fine.
