You will have to loosen the center nut that is located on the front hub while the care is still down on the ground to make it easy to undo then jack the car up and put it on a car stand then loosen the 6 locating nuts and bolts on the gearbox flange if it dosent have the bolts and flange it requires to use 2 leavers on both sides of the iner c v joint and pop the c v out before you try to pop the c v out you must undo the bottom lower control arm so that you can move it free if you dont undo control arm it will keep the c v sold against the fron wheel hub

What is the easiest way to replace the front drivers side lower ball joint on a 1998 Nissan Altima?Or would it just be easier to replace the lower control arm?The ball joint is definetly done-for.

just need to get a ball joint splitter , pronged shaped device that you hammer between the ball joint and control arm ,after stripping down the assembly, little tip, when fitting new ball joint apply slight pressure from below when tightening the nut , this will stop the joint from just spinning , i usually use a scissor jack for this

How to replace lower ball joint on 1998 Honda CRV?

On a car this old, I would replace the whole lower arm, because the inner bushing is probably worn out, too. Much easier to do, so the cost of the part might be offset by the savings in labor. Just a few nuts and bolts and getting the ball joint to release from the knuckle with a few hammer hits.

How to replace ball joints

the lower ball joint is pressed into the lower control arm. You will need a ball joint press to remove and install the ball joint. The other option is to replace the lower control arm.

Some parts store will have presses for loan. You will have to check around and see if any in your area have these. If you can't find one you could always pull the control arm and bring it to a shop or machine shop and have them swap the ball joint.

Its a pretty simple procedure.

1. remove the wheel
2. remove the pinch bolt that secures the knuckle to the ball joint.
3. separate the lower control arm from the knuckle.
4. remove snap ring from the ball joint (if it has one)
5. use a ball joint press to press out the old ball joint.
6. press in the new ball joint.

if you don't have a press than you can remove the lower control arm by following steps 1-3 above. then remove the bolt from the front bushing. Remove the stamped steel skid pan from the sub frame. Remove the rear lower control arm bushing mounting bolts.

If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Steps needed to replace front lower ball joint on 1998 vw jetta

these are actually easy to replace on these cars.
there are 3 small bolts that hold the ball joint to the control arm. new ball joints are sold with new hardware, so don't worry if it gets damaged when removing.
mark the postion of the old ball joint. they can be moved slightly on the control arm to change alignment.
the top of the ball joint is clamped into the wheel bearing housing with one large bolt.
I use a very large & dull chisel to spread the clamp on the bearing housing if the top of the ball joint is difficult to pull out of the wheel bearing housing.

Lower Ball Joint

You will have to remove it and replace it with a new one. The general steps for doing that is: 1)remove the tire 2)remove the caliper and rotor 3)remove the outer tie rod from the spindle 4)remove the axle nut 5) remove the cv axle 5)remove the nut on the ball joint 6) bang ball joint out and press in a new one. Then reassembly is exactly the reverse as disassembly.

I need to replace upper right ball joint, 98 honda civic

This is a pretty easy job.The way i do it is take the two 14mm bolts louse from the strut on the inner fender well, then take the 17mm bolt out of the bottom of the strut on the lower control arm this will make it drop down. Then take the 14mm bolt louse that fastens the ball joint to the spindle take a hammer and hit the upper spindle and it all will come apart. Now you will have the two bolts that holds the upper control arm in place these are 17mm bolts drop the strut down and remove the upper control arm now you can go in with the new one.Hope this helps !!!

firstly remove the wheel trim and undoo the big nut on the end of the drive shaft,Then jack up and remove wheel and put stand under body remove the lower track control arm pinch bolt from lower suspension .remove brake caliper separate the lower arm from the bottom of the strut then push the drive shaft through the hub assembly and its clear .cut off old boot and look for the circlip that hold the end on which should be in the centre if the unit in a recess to allow access to the ends of the clip .You shouldnt need to remove the whole shaft just spread the clip and tap with a copper hammer.wash the thing out with diesel and take the balls out and give it a good clean ,rebuild and pack with grease slide the new rubber down the drive shaft ,refit the end but dot hit the threasded bit with a hammer put a block of wood their first then tap it on.Refit the suspension and away you go

Bad left lower ball joint 2004 nissan quest

most of these ball joints can be installed by themselves however since the control arm are so light it is unsafe just to do the balljoints still in order to replace the control arm you dont need to compress any springs just take it apart and put a new one in.

I want to replace lower ball joint on my nissan altima 2001

Hi,
Remove the castle nut on top of the ball joint that secures the ball joint to the spindle. separate ball joint/lower control arm from spindle.Remove lower control arm bolt attatching control arm to subframe/engine cradle. Remove control arm. Replacement is recersal of the removal. Nissan/Infinity ball joints can not be pressed out or in. They are replaced with the whole new lower control arm as one (On most Nissan/ Infinity vehicles, although some exeptions apply. Hope this helps.
