Does it try to start by using starting fluid in the intake ?
I'm fairly sure fuel pressure should be 55-65 psi so 50 may be low.
Do you loose spark as the engine is cranking ?
Any trouble codes stored in the computer ?
I replaced Fuel pump back in november along with the fuel filter. I looked up the specs on the pump I put in, saya it should be 85 to 100 psi, I'm getting 50.This time around I did not replace the fuel filter..Could it be the issue? I dont have a code reader, I will try starter fluid in the morning to see if it behaves differently.
I replaced fuel filter, blew out fuel lines, no change... it will run if I use starting fluid. I connected pressure gauge straight to the pump and read 85 psi, still reading 50 psi at the rail.
Final update,,, A mechanic told me 50psi was too low at the rail, this seems to be a common "wrong". 50psi at the rail is more than sufficient. I finally took it to a shop, the problem ended up being the pass-key box for the remote starter unit that was installed 11 years ago. The box went bad and made the truck go into theft mode which shuts down the injectors. Removed the box, reprogrammed the key, runs great.

it sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump is letting the fuel bleed back into the tank

There is a recall on this model for problems with the Engine Control Module/Coil Pack. This causes the engine to not start. Take it to the nearest Saturn dealer and get it repaired free of charge. This problem can eventually burn up your catyletic converter which will lead to much more costly repairs. There are actually 3 recalls on this vehicle. Take it to the dealer and get it taken care of. It will be like driving a new car once the repairs have been made!

Most fuel injected vehicles have a relay that controls the fuel pump so after the ignition switch has been on for about 5 seconds and the engine is not running, the fuel pump automatically shuts off.
I don't know what your original problem was, but I think if the car runs normally, you have probably fixed your problem. If you don't have a manual, you can probably go to the library and take a look at a manual that covers your vehicle.

have you made shure there is fuel in the tank, they had alot of problems wth sending units on that year. if so chances are its the fuel pump. try banging on the bottom of the fuel tank while sombody tries to start the vehicle, if it starts replace fuel pump. faulty regulators will usually cause a very rich running condition.
