Im a girl first off & have nobody else to ask so if my descriptions are a little off im sorry! I have a 2003 Crown Vic P.I. The problem started with the car just dying, it did that twice & started right back up on the first try each time. It never did that again after those 2 times. Now my engine light is on & the car tries to "die" at take off (like at a stoplight a jerky type feeling but NOT like a transmission jerking) & I can have the gas pedal all the way to the floor with it barely speeding up.. when I do this the engine light begins flashing. Its only getting worse & Im scared to drive it .. Seems worse when I have the A/C on.. I dont have money to try alot of different things So I would appriciate the mostly likely culprits.. ALSO my headlights are not working .. high beams work if i hold the stick back & if I unhook the battery for awhile they will come on long enough to get me somewhere so far everything I found points to the light control module so im not sure if that is related or not but they did start at the same time.. ANY HELP is appriciated im a single mom with a 2 yo & one about to be here living on disability so I dont have the money to put it in the shop!
Go to autozone, Oreilleys, or some national parts store. They will do scans for trouble codes for free. You will need an "OBD-II" scan. After you get the codes, post them here for further help.
I doubt if the lights and the engine trouble is related. You may have to get the fuel pressure checked, as a weak or failing fuel pump can cause stalling and lack of acceleration.
Not saying I know, but it may be the dimmer switch that needs replacing rather than the LCM. Does it just affect the headlights?

I finally bit the bullet and took it into the dealer. It was indeed the Light Control Module (LCM). The dealer said there was not a service bulletin issued on this problem but when I asked the service manager to talk to the Ford rep about assisting with this safety issue, it took all of ten seconds for him to come back on the line and say that they would fix the whole thing for $100. (My car is not under warranty and the LCM alone is $480). Not sure exactly what happened behind the scenes but it appears Ford would rather fix this than have an issue made of it. (This is a privately owned car that does have wigwags and other emergency lighting equipment installed. These were not a factor).
SOURCE: Car Dies suddenly, May **** and jump at constant speed,
what is the year mahe and model of your jumpy jerkey car? is it throttle body injection carborated ot electronic fuel injection ?have you taken the fuel rail or line loose and tried blowing it out with a strong blast of compressed air ??if you changed the fuel filter and it was dirty and you say you changed the tank and fuel pump you more than likely
are experiancing what they often refer to as butterfly action in your fuel line or your injectors are plugging up sounds to me more like a piece of rust or something of that nature doing a little gate or butterfly trick on you .. a single piece of rust can cause trouble for years if it is big enough and in the right position in the fuel line.. take your fuel line loose at the tank, both ends of the filter and the injector rail and with a strong compressor blow backwards through the fuel line, both from the engine to the filter end and from the other filter end to the tank (caution ) ( caution ) do not i say do not blow compressed air backwards through the fuel pump you will blow a hole in the diaphram and ruin the pump adding to the expense or your repairs dramaticly..
if that dont do the trick my next suggestion would be get the code connector fixed and get a good reading on the computer ..one more thing how good are you with elictrical ? it could be a short in the ignition switch or wires going to it keep me posted we will try to get it sorted out for you good luck and i hope this helps

I just had this problem and replaced the camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, and coolant temp sensor. i replaced these items because of high mileage. try these but first check your relays located under the hood on the passenger side. sometimes they get hot and fail.
SOURCE: Engine won't start. Dash lights flash rapidly when key turned.
the battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck
