Well if your car has run out of oil when driving you should not be trying to turn over the engine till you have checked that the engine has not seized (you should always assume it has seized). Remove the head and check that the pistons are still in working order and TDC before trying to start the car...by the sounds of things your car has seized.
Sorry you have to dumb it down a little for me. Give me some easy ways to test for engine siezure please.
well usually the car wont turn over and it tends to sound "weird" when you do...I tend to associate the sound of that of a tractor. your car will usually cut out "as you said it is doing" . Hopefully you have not bent the valves or damaged the pistons. If they are in good condition you can "save" your engine other wise you have a new glass top table holder.
turns out to be the timing belt

SOURCE: isuzu rodeo engine seized. how can you check for what is the caus
If engine has seized, the likely cause is that a crankshaft/rod bearing has failed. Unless you ran vehicle low on oil, this can generally be considered to be a material failure. (unless you ran the rpms up way over "redline") Generally the engine can now be regarded as JUNK and just be replaced. You can remove the cylinder head and inspect it to see if it's re-usable, but you should not try to turn it by hand while installed, or you may bend valves. If you decide to re-use it, you will need to completely clean it to remove debris from failure otherwise any junk in passageways can destroy the block bearings in the new one you bolted it to.
SOURCE: which way do I turn the main bolt on crankshaft to
You may have a reverse thread confirm by disconect coil wire or power plug to distributor and have an assistant turn the motor over while you observe standing in the front of the vehicle to determine crank pulley directional rotation, if when standing in the front of vehicle the rotation is counterclock wise the bolt unscrews counterclock wise (the usual) if the rotation is clockwise it is a reverse thread.
